I am looking at either a NVG4500 or a 700R4 for my truck. I like sticks, but I need the overdrive, so if I go this way, I have to pay the big bucks for the manuel. My question is, is a properly built 700R4 going to cost me about the same as the NVG? I know there a problems with the 700R4, so if its going to cost a crap load of money to get build right, I'd rather go with the NVG.

getting a good 700R4 built will probably cost you a grand I'd say, you can get a NV4500 for that. Trans that is, not sure about the adapter, bellhousing, and the clutch assembly.

A hi performance th700 is going to cost you at LEAST $1,500. It sounds like you don't have a core either. Mine was about $1,500 for my 700 and I got almost everything HD out there in mine and that was with a good core and getting a good deal from knowing the owner of the tranny shop (that included them R&R'ing the tranny).
You could probably go with an NV4500 for cheaper but I have both trannies in two different trucks and prefer my Th700.

Wow, some tranny shops really screw people.
