Old Iron 2.0

I might be taking this on as a project today. Pilot bearing is sitting in the freezer.

Transmission gaskets are supoosed to be delivered today, rtv didn't do the trick on the front bearing retainer... I was real careful around the little oil slinger cut, didn't want to get rtv into that and it leaked after being sealed up, gonna put a gasket on with indian head shellac, should be fine after that.

I really want to get this engine and transmission bolted together and put in the truck.

The wheels I was planning on getting are on backorder.

The company that I bought the SM465 and NP205 gaskets from sent me someone elses stuff... BMW stuff that costs about 20x what my stuff was worth lol. Called them and got everything straightened out.

Got new calipers for the 14 Bolt, cost $17 each, why not.

Got the spindle nuts torqued down properly) and the axle shafts sealed up and torqued down.

Sealed and torqued the diff cover down.

Leaving the welded gears in for now, I checked them out and the welds look good and ALL of the spider gear teeth are welded not just here and there. Looks like it would hold up to some abuse.

Got the pilot bearing installed, torqued the flywheel and pressure plate down then loosely bolted the bellhousing on.

Seperated the SM465 and NP205.

Drained the transmission.

Had one of those homer buckets take a chit on me once doing just that...

It's the only thing I had, once I seperated the tranny from the adapter fluid started going everywhere so I picked it up and set it in the bucket.

The rest of the fluid drained out and I took it out of the bucket.

I was kind of skeptical about it but that's what I had on hand at the time.

Little update:

Ordered the hydraulic clutch kit from Novak, consists of a bracket for the slave cylinder, 3/4 bore slave cylinder, clutch fork and that's about it.

Ordered a clutch fork boot from them too.

Ordered a master cylinder and Energy poly transmission mount bushings from rockauto.

Thanks to @campfire I should have some a hydraulic clutch pedal assembly coming soon.

Once the Novak stuff gets here I plan on installing that stuff, bolting the transmission up to the bellhousing and dropping everything into the truck in what will hopefully be it's final resting spot.

I plan on lowering the truck down some more, with just enough space for me to crawl under the truck.

I'm hoping to swing the engine/trans/t-case in there with everything bolted together, get the transmission mount crossmember bolted up first then adjust all the engine crossmember stuff off of that so everything is how it was stock placement wise.

Got the 205, adapter and crossmember seperated.

Cleaned up the 205 a little bit.

Slid the drive sleeve on the output shaft of the SM465 and bolted the adapter on with new Grade 8 hardware, torqued to 45 lbs. (only spec I could find was 47 lbs. for a Grade 8 3/8" bolt torqued dry).

Should have parts rolling in tomorrow which will let me mate the engine and transmission and the plan is to have them installed this upcoming weekend.

I'm gonna have to conjure something up to get this 205 sitting at the right angle to install it... no way in hell I'm holding that thing up there with my hands while trying to start bolts.

That device you so seek is one of my napkin drawing projects of the day.

Hold tight and I'll get it up later...

Plate 1

Bolts to the PTO Plateallows you to change the clicking on (465/203/205, take your pick) Designed to lay almost flat to allow use on a clocked 205

Drive screw has a socket welded to it to run it up or down, rotating the unit attached

Top of this will be welded to the bottom of the other 90* from each other, with the drive screw to the front (away from the floor jack)

This allows nose up/down angle correction

Edit: Top or bottom will have to be solid to the plate for rigidity

Sorry they are both wonky. Going to build it soon to add the Doubler and new tranny in mine

What's the sport in that?

Kinda needing this contraption to do this by myself. Think it'll work awesome

Got the clutch master cylinder and the poly tranny mounts in.

Thanks to @campfire I have a set of hydro clutch pedals now.

Waiting on my junk from Novak to show up so I can start putting this stuff together.
