Old Iron 2.0

Your center pins look way far forward of your bumpstops.?! Nvrmnd. I just read that you wanted to shorten the wheelbase.

Well I got the brackets bolted on, got lucky and didn't screw up any of the new holes that were made.

Got the rubber bushings and sleeves out of the 60" springs.

Got the poly bushings out of the 56's without tearing them up and transplanted into the 60's.

Went to hang the first spring and my shackle is the wrong way lol.

If it stops raining I'm gonna get the 14 bolt bolted back up to the new springs then flip the shackle flip opposite sides. My shackle angle should be vertical at that point (no weight in the rear).

Longer leaf springs would fix that

Flipped the shackle flips yesterday, shackles were close to vertical but still pointing towards the front of the truck.

Picked up some 63's today, came off of an '03 2500, 4 leaves + overload. Just racking up leaf springs.... gonna have a good selection for bastard packs I guess.

Slapped them on to see shackle angle, put a jacket right under where the center pin is and put enough pressure on it to lift that frame rail off of the kickstand a hair.

Not sure what it's gonna look like with 180 lbs. of fuel sitting back there.

I can flip the shackle flip back around or drop to a 4" shackle (which I already have sitting around from an old project). Any advice here?

And my toolbox full of stuff...

The fuel cell full would be 190 - 195 lbs.

I may have too lol, at least everything is apart at this point, getting tired of doing this stuff.

Practice makes perfect. Have some of your buddys stand on the frame or stack a bunch of crap on there to simulate the load

Gonna throw the spare, my toolbox and my 3 kids on there. Should be close.

I have to order some bushings two of the spring eyes. Two of them are the metric ones that are close to 1.75". Two are larger at 2.125".

Hopefully ORD has the fix.

Been doing little stuff here and there.

Painted the diff cover

Painted the JB7 calipers that he been floating around in the garage (my other caliper have rust on them from the cheap reman paint)

Assembled the springless arm and kingpin cap

Opened up the center pin hole on my spring plates to 3/4" in order clear the center pin nut (I've had to file it down on the last 2 sets of springs).

Opened up the holes in my 4" shackles from 1/2" to 9/16" just in case I do have to use them.

Got the sleeves out of the 64" springs. Same method using a sawzall but this time after the sleeve was cut I used a chisel and jammed it between the sleeve and the spring eye and they all came out very easily. Usually I told the sleeve over with a chisel and use a punch and it takes longer.

Prepped everything to get the springs on and axle bolted back up for when the bushings come in the mail.

Calipers look really good with that VHT paint on them.

I measured all of my U-bolts a few days back and marked the U-bolts with my label maker and clear packing tape.

They were all different lengths so I got them on today and torqued them to 150 lbs. in an alternating pattern, double checked torque then flapped them all down flush with the nut and sprayed some black paint to keep them from rusting.

I know it is preferred to have some thread protruding from the top of the nut but I can't stand un-even stuff so this was best for me.

All that's left to do for today is put the wheels/tires back on.
