Old Iron 2.0

Pulled all of the e-brake stuff today.

Pulled the rest of the exhaust which was mounted with bailing wire lol.

Pulled the speedo cable... had fun unhookng that thing from the back of the gauge cluster.

Dropped the trans, t-case and crossmember.

The blue things in the last pic are what was used to lower the trans/t-case crossmember. I thought they were polyurethane but they are solid plastic.

Just noticed that the tube is a lot thicker than I initially thought it was... beefy.

It seems kind of short for a crossover drag link, measured out to 30 and 3/4" exactly, hopefully everything is good to go once the other parts show up this week.

From my research a crossover drag link on a K5 with a Dana 60 measures out to around 42". So I need about 6" or so more on each end, I'm guessing the TRE's will fill that void.

Should be getting a used steering box from an '89 2WD early next week.

Gonna paint the crossover stuff between now and then.

I got you on the contacts.

Is Pritchett going out? I've got way too much shit in my garage just spread out all over the place man...I need to start working on stuff.

Yeap! I have a few of those type bins. You know, the one that have nothing but bolts and screws and such from when you go to the junk yard and say, " Damn, I might need that". Awesome! LOL Great build BTW

Man tell me about it, I've got this bin that weighs about 60 lbs. full of rusty bolts, nuts and washers that I've pulled from trucks over the years... Sometimes I find something that I need in there but for the most part it's just taking up space in my garage.

I had an idea of buying some of that evaporust stuff and putting it in a 5 gallon bucket and dumping all the bolts and stuff in there then putting them in a media polisher to clean things up further. Seems like a waste to throw all of that stuff away.

And Thanks, it's coming along slowly. Has to ve moving under it's own power in the next few months before I relocate back to Colorado.

Some more pics of the crossover stuff and the frame bracing parts.

Another pic of that beef steering arm.

I'm using VHT Roll Bar & Chassis to paint everything. It's self priming and I've read good things about it + it looks pretty good when dry.

Wiped all the parts down with acetone and sprayed them, don't know how long they'll take to dry up. I want to say it's at least 60° in my garage but who knows.

I tried painting the frame of an s10 I was building with it, even after it dried for several days you could scratch it off with your finger nail.. Hope you have better luck then I did.

Got all of the steering stuff lined up and ready to go.

Got the 2wd box from an '89.

Chopped the 2.5" exhaust that was bolted onto the 350 that used to be in the truck... may be able to save some money by using some of it.

I'm waiting on some "Fix-it" Weld washers from RuffStuff. I also need kingpin cap gaskets and a upper kingpin bushing retainer.

Got the TNA crossmember tightened up, used red loctite on all the bolts and nuts.

Still have to drill a 7/16" hole for one last bolt.

Found this at Home Depot for $20.

Now I have something to keep all my specific hardware organized and in the same place while I'm working on little projects. I've always had a problem with misplacing bolts and stuff so this is pretty nice to me.

Pulled the front crossmember and cleaned thing up a little bit.

The reason I pulled it is because I'm going to be reinforcing the inside of the frame where the steering box bolts go through with weld washers from RuffStuff.

I'll reattach the crossmember with 7/16" grade 8 hardware and red loctite.

I may have to clearance the ORD bolt-in steering brace a little bit on the pieces of tube that the bolts pass through but I don't think it should be an issue.
