Old new guy! New old guy?

Well, today I was able to get 95% of the rear section de-mouse pooped! Still need to peel some very stick stuff off. Also to see what to do about patching the old camper table pole mount thing that’s cut in.

After this, I’ll devise a rear seat for the kid, and get around to making new side panels.

But….today bore fruit! I am 95% done installing the Soft top. Just need some sun light to help it stretch. Took way longer than I had planned, due to some captured nut problems.

But progress is progress.

Also, some pics of the camper removal, and some wind in the face. It was good to meet you in person. That camper was by far the most challenging to remove of 4 that I’ve personally screwed with. I’ve got more pics, but you got them covered and then some!

Soft topper looks good on the truck though! Nice work.

Thanx. I’m bushed. Pushed a little to hard today. Definitely need to delete the white cab top!

Also great meeting you. Funny how close we all are.

Once you get the Jimmy trail ready we’ll have to do a day run to the hills to test it out with the rest of the locals up here.

Small levels of progress. Changed the oil to go on a quick mountain trip for some Pew Therapy. That led to jacking it up to check all the things. I found that the left upper ball joint but was about 3/16” away from touching the knuckle. The taper is not seated, so the whole thing wiggles all about. Yay.

I picked up a great set of 02-06 Tahoe 3rd rows for the kiddo.

Decided to order a TIG welder.

And today, I scored a fair set of 37’s for $300. Just need to find some 17” wheels.

Also, my Father decided I need his 75 K10. So I now have access to a flat knuckle 44 front with open 4.88 and new U joints. Hope it has good ball joints. The rear is a 12 bolt with Detroit and 4.88. It also has a TH350 with part time 203. A very old “home made 427” big block. Brand new headers and 3” exhaust with flow masters. It’s sitting on 4” spring/block, and a 3 “ body lift. My buddy did all this work about 20 years ago. It’s got about 400 miles on it all. The big block was my fathers from 30+ years ago that came in a 71 Blazer. He pulled it so my mom could drive it. Supposedly a bad ass engine.

So. Now I have way to much shit on my plate!

Current plan is swap axles to the Jimmy, sell the trans and tcase, body lift, and suspension. The 75 will get full blown trail buggy treatment at a later date. So I’ll keep the Jimmy built for daily use and 7/8 trails.95CB3F3C-9A33-47D7-8CCC-50A718B0FA9F.jpeg3F03A367-517B-498D-8DD7-A9B5C1822DE4.jpegC90E9BC0-EE19-4DA2-9A59-7E035841217D.jpeg6304B2F0-2BFD-4678-AAB8-645BECA30C00.jpeg

Now to get that TIG burning and make some brackets for the rear seats. Cause Merrick can kiss my ass with his prices.

Never seen a tach work backwards before....:confused:

Nice score with the topper. You oughta buy a lotto ticket!

Just need to find some 17” wheels.

I'm somewhat in the same boat, and I found some Toyota 4-runner or truck stockers for $150. They're ratty as hell, but they should fit. Got a line on a new set of Blizzak W965 in 265/75/17 that will go on my truck, and the used set on the truck can go on my Jimmy.

So hit up Craigslist!

Been a long time. Wow. Ended up in the hospital again, still dealing with the round 2 healing issues, but hey, I’m alive.

So……. I have the 1984 Jimmy this thread is about. I also have a 1975 Chevy short bed that my father basically forced on me now.

I really don’t want to deal with the emissions shit that’s going to happen on the 84, but I definitely want a topless vehicle.

Need y’all’s thoughts.

Option A: swap the Jimmy body onto the 75, and make the sheet metal work with the new wheelbase.

Option B: Sell the Jimmy. Cut the top off the 75 cab. Design a cage and make a permanent safari top for it. Integrate a modular 3rd row single seat for the daughter.

Regardless of direction, most all leftover parts will be sold.

The 75 is a big block with dual 3” flow master 40 series. TH350 and I think it’s a 203. Flat knuckle 44 in front, 12 bolt rear. 4.88 gears with rear Detroit. The body all around is poor. Has a 4” lift of unknown origin, along with a 3” body lift.

The Jimmy is a 305/465/208 with double 10 bolts. 3.73. Body is in great shape.

Obviously it’s going to be a lot of work either way. I’m inclined to keep the big block, go NV4500 and a magnum doubler are absolute. Run the current 45/12 bolt until I have issue with them, then swap to 60/14.

Well, if your still reading, whatcha think?

Pics of the Jimmy as it sits, and a photo my buddy did imagining the stretch for the new wheelbase.

Pic for attention is my leg wound in its current state. The original infection that led to that is what’s in my spine at the moment. Good times. B62D0569-3EE7-4B09-B6EA-77B1999C5108.jpeg128C5FD8-C74D-44FA-A62F-25047821E177.jpeg106B31D0-A531-4B38-AD44-8F335DDE4C61.jpeg

Options A and B both sound like a lot more work than the unmentioned Option C: get the Jimmy to pass emissions.

I got mine to pass in Colorado on the first try and again in Oregon after I moved (took me 3 tries out here). The back seat and cargo area are awesome for kids, plus you can throw the fiberglass top on for winter.

Just my 2 cents
