Old School 327 running hot

They did use an 8 rib belt on that CVF setup, so it does have 1/3 more contact surface vs the same length 6 rib belt setup.

Wow that power steering is barely touched by the belt. That's definitely not enough belt wrap. Does the belt squeal while turning at a standstill?
This is about the same as the TPI, which I run. If I cram the wheel at full lock it makes kind of a "ringing" noise, but not belt squeal. Of course good drivers don't jam the valve open beyond the end of travel.

Example TPI belt routing:

Elky owner came over for a test drive. Our guy John went out with him. Made a big loop. Some highway and surface roads with traffic. Never got hotter than 180 with the gauge cycling between that and 160 during the drive. They hit a lot of traffic and did stop and let it sit for 15 minutes to heat soak it. Upon starting it back up the gauge was close to 200 but came right down as it drove.

Granted it was in the 20’s when they were out but it was almost as cold when he took it home last time and it started running hot 20 minutes into the drive. They were gone for almost 45 minutes today and it was rock solid.

The owner is happy. Even made a joke about the engine being a 350.

Thanks everyone for the input as the collaboration of thought helped a lot.

Does anything seem to be wrong with the old water pump?
Oddly enough no. With the back plate off the impeller was tight to the shaft. The impeller did have a flat plate that blocked view of the blades though. I was up handling someone up front when the pump was opened up though. Not seeing any smoking gun the back cover got put back on.

My guess is it probably was a reverse rotation pump. When we called CVF about the pump they assured us it took a standard rotation pump but there was no part number or marking to confirm it was one or the other. We didn’t install it so we didn’t see the box the pump came in to validate the number on the box was either rotation.

It’s the most likely reason I see.
