Onetonbb74s K5

1 ton k5 built for wheeling and camping.
Just hard to get to. I got the harness out, there is a lot of the loom missing, some wires have compromised insulation. Going to scope out my spare harness and see what is easier to work with.

Looks like I need to pull the dash...there is an electrical issue with communication to the OBD port.

Wiring on vehicles sucks...but it needs to be done.

At least it's not your main DD. I've got the OEM schematic manuals at home if you need any schematic to chase down a circuit or more. Just say the word.

Im going to see if I have any schematics in my gm manual as well, ill let you know.

Well I finally got back to the Blazer...the problem was grounds. I pulled the harness in the engine compartment swapped it with my other blazer harness and cleaned it up, re-loomed/wired a few bad sections (knock sensor wire was melted, connectors broken...) and re-taped it up and installed. Noticed I only had 1 ground strap for the harness at the back of the passenger side cylinder head and the one harness ground at the water neck. The only ground strap I had to the battery was on the front of the block. I added a new block to frame, battery to rad support, and a frame to firewall ground.

I pulled the dash, noticed my grounds were loose by the guages and fuse block. Added 4 ground points to the firewall, cluster, and cage. Used non-insulated crimps and shrink wrap and tied them together and mounted a ground lug on the cage. Cleaned up some aux. wiring and put the dash back together. Ran the motor and it idled for about an hour, nice clean idle. Noticed I have 14.2v at the dash guage when it was 13.5 previously. I have a clean 14v at the ecu according to the scanners live data. Drove it about 20 miles without a problem.

It is funny how many times the issue is ground.
Lately it's the first thing I check.

And it just happened to @ryoken

don't remind me.... :haha:

funny thing is, as a marine mechanic, I install about 50, 60 batteries a yr these days... while a fair bit of the boats are straightforward one wire per terminal, even with 4 or 5 bats, MANY boats have been hacked over the yrs and have MANY grds or pos per post from added schtuff... to the point you can barely get a nut on the stud.... the minute i see those for fall storage, i put a ziptie right thru all the grd or pos ringlets when i pull the bats, so i know what goes where in the spring..

should have known better... :doah:
