Paint Hummer H2 Wheels

So I picked up a set of H2 wheels for my crew cab. Standard finish not polished. I would like to paint them Rustoleum Satin Black. Has anyone painted these wheels? What kind of prep should I do before spraying on the paint? Any special primer I should look at? Thanks.

After looking at a few different websites I found this one with a pretty clear procedure:

I've also decided to use Duplicolor's Wheel Coating instead of the Rustoleum.

Now to acquire the "stuff" and get this done soon.

just my opinion from working in the auto repair bussness.

black is wayyyyyy to over done these days.

have you looked for pics of painted h2 rims on our trucks ?

if ya want it peeling off in 6 months... ehow away...... if ya dont zinc bare AL, it WILL fail.... zinc chromate or at least a decent etching primer before paint....

easy to do.

stock h2 rims.

stock 88-up center caps/plastic lug nut covers.

conversion nuts to fit 9/16 thread on our older trucks.

tiny bit of trimming on back side of cap and done.

I like the look of the caps on those wheels. I had been planning on leaving the centers open but now I may have to "finish" it with a set of these.

i used regular ol rustoleum on my one wheel. The short time I had it on the truck it held up good. Even after hitting it with the buffer a couple times.

give it a shot...... lot's of voodoo self etching primer stuff out these days... nothing is better than oldschool zinc on AL... but it is becoming difficult to get, thus all the heavily marketed new school etching primers..


honestly, I know alot of guys use various duplicolor paints thruout this forum and hopefully it's been good for them... but up until a few yrs ago I was never impressed with duplicolors offerings.. hopefully they've improved recently....
