Phil's '88 Big Blue Build Thread

Naw. Your questions won't be dumb. Helping people learn about their trucks is what keeps this site relevant. Post away!

Oh yeah...the folks reading through it will also learn from your questions. Taking myself as an example, I've never owned a TBI 350, and I don't have much in-depth experience repairing them. So I've learned all kinds of things from hanging around here. And no doubt I will learn from your thread as well.

Also, since this is turning into a build thread instead of a greeting thread, you can go back to your first post, hit the edit button, and enter a new title to describe the build. Then folks browsing through the garage will know which truck this thread is about. See the titles in the Driveway section if you need inspiration. :)

Fixed. Lets hope the rest of my fixes go this easy.

Sorry for all the pics, but I'm putting this here as a baseline for the "Before" pic. I have only found 2 dents, you can see them, one just behind the grill, and one right at the door keyhole. The rest is straight as far as I can tell.

Dunno why someone painted the top black. Ick.

I have NO idea what to do with this. What a train wreck.

My dash is way worse.

IMO skip paint, skip body work, skip "look good" mods. Save your money for the things that will make you happy when you are pedal down in the sand. :D

Mines ugly, got some rust, but ill tell you what, Im sure glad ive spent the time to get the drivetrain right, before dropping a dime on making it pretty.

Its worth it.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. It's just I am doing the paint and bodywork myself, it won't cost me much, so I am going to pick at it as I assemble the other stuff. I'm going to tackle the interior last.

My first repair. w00t!

Brake lights didn't work. Traced it to the little plunger switch at the top of the brake pedal. All is right with the world now.

:waytogo: Sometimes we get lucky, and it's the simple things.

To be perfectly honest, the truck came equipped with a trailer brake setup. I figured something in it was dorked up, so I took it out and all the trailer pigtail stuff first.

Then figured out it was the switch. Oh well.
