I have seen a full size 4 door chevy truck, cab, mounted on a k5 frame. Has anyone seen a bed sectioned/shortened to go on with it? I know this would make the bed only a few feet long, but i think it would be prety different. Any pics?
If no pics of that, how about just a 4 door cab on blazer frame so i can judge the lenght a little.

Thanks

if your going 4 door , do a blazer (- :

little wifey driving

It will be interesting to see one of these to see how they modded the cab to fit the back tires.

saw this pic in another thread, think it was posted by original blazer, hope this is what you were looking for.:D

sorry, i jumped the gun i believe that this is a standard cab truck frame.

Mine is actually a cab and chassis cut down to 4 feet behind the cab.
It was 9.5 foot frame rails with an 10.5 foot bed on it.

I belive there is a member on here with a crew cab on a regular cab short bed truck frame. But I dont think anyone has made one fit a blazer frame YET.

The other one Im thinking of, has the cab corners cut away. Mine will probabaly need the cab corner trimed as well.
I found it its MTMIKE's truck show in this thread.

There is also a thread about short bed crew cabs.

We have a 72 blazer frame and drivetrain and were thinking of finding a body to put on it just to be able to use it. Can't decide what to do. Tube truggy? Or swap bodies and make it more usable?

Jwglover, did you have to modify the body to fit on that frame at all other than moving body mount locations?

A 131.5" wheelbase is as short as you can go without having to hack into the back of the 6 pack cab...and even that puts the rear tires really close to the back of the cab.

My Crew Cab is getting shortened up to 136" with a 5 foot box.

Even on a long box frame the rear part of the Crew Cab body needs to be channeled for frame rail clearance...it'd be the same or worse on a K5 frame or short box frame.

I didnt think there would be that much too it. I think it would still be cool.
I have always liked Crew Cabs, A long bed (fleet side) crew cab is my favorite, i love the excesivness of it. A big ass middle finger to MPG. I think a crew cab with a 2 foot bed would just be fun.
My last name is also crew, so it just fits

I guess this is what it would look like on a short bed frame

By far the simplest way is to just cut a crew cab frame down to where you want it. You get the added benifit of a bigger stronger frame.

I did mine to leave enough of a bed to have room for tool boxes and stuff like a hilift jack and a spare tire.

I'm sure it could be done, it would just take a lot of fabrication to make the rear tires fit the cab. If you look at MTMike's pictures on the linked thread above he says it's a shortbed frame (117" WB) plus the rear axle is moved another 4" back with reversed 56" springs and he still had to cut into the cab to clear the tires. A stock K5 would put the tires almost 15" further forward...you would have to cut 2/3 of the way into the door to make it work. Cool - yes, lots of work - yes.

really, i think a crew cab on a blazer frame would be quite impractacle, unless you welded the rear doors shut, then radiused them to fit the back tires...?

i'm keeping my crew with a 7' bed, after i go to a flat bed, then shorten up the rear of the frame to the spring hangers... i like my 165" wheelbase - you can't even tell my 14B is welded...!

Your right, even on mine if you look closely once I go to a 38-40" tire I will have to cut my cab corners away. My truck with the stock 2wd front was 132" hub to hub after I shortened it. then when I converted it to 4wd I moved the front axle 4" forward as that seams to be the max you can go without changing the steering box location. So now hub to hub it is 136", but the overall truck is about 2+- feet shorter than the reg cab long bed setting next to it. Kind of weird I have a longer wheel base but a shorter truck than a long bed reg cab or a suburban.

You know I didnt even think about that on my rear springs. Are 52's longer on one side than the other? Could I move my axle back a bit more if I swapped the springs around? I could use a few inchs more wheel base LMAO! No the real purpose would be to get the tires out of the cab and help departure angle. I guess I should go measure.

I kept the stock s10 frame, it is boxed from the frt bumper to almost the tranny cross member, it is much stronger than the K-5 frame.(sorry guys)
I used to run a full size, and over the rocks they just dont last, they get twisted and bent , I could only get about two years of good ,hard wheelin on a fullsize, the s10 I have run for 4 years and is still good.

52's are centered with 26" from the center to either end. On 56's the extra 4" are all on one side of the spring, so 26" from center to end on side and 30" on the other. They did this so they could keep the same front spring mount and axle location but still have a longer spring...only required moving the rear spring mounts.

Oh ok thanks. Like I said I never even thought about it with my 52's.
I knew 56's where differnt front to back.

I used the springs I had because when they was on my blazer it flexed pretty dang good. So I figured I didnt need to go to longer springs. My fronts are rancho soft ride the rears are the stock blazer 52's.
