I really need to get those Sub-Culture stickers now! Anyways I'm going to go pick up my new treasure tomorrow. Found a guy who has a 1990 Burb that blew a head gasket and wants $200 for the truck. It's a 3/4 ton, 2wd with a factory 465 trans. I assume it has a 454, but that isnt what I'm after.

Now I have a question that I couldnt find an answer to inthe search: what gear set would be in the 14b? I'm thinkin 3.73 since the trans doesnt have OD, but maybe I'm wrong in assuming that. The other question I have is if anyone knows for sure that this year of truck would have the hydro clutch? I'm wanting to replace the mech setup in the wifes Burb as the stuff I put in there last year is binding somewhere and is a PITA to shift at times. Also how can I tell if this thing has the 454 or the 350 TBI? If its the 454, how easy is a head gasket to fix?

Thanks ahead of time and I'll post pics once I get it home.:D

My guess would be 3.73 gears. if the RPO sticker is in the glovebox still GT4 = 3.73, GT5 = 4.10

It will be a hydro clutch setup, (all doubt can be removed by looking under the hood for the clutch master cylinder)

Just look at the valve covers on the engine. 454 valve covers are much larger then 350 covers

350 has exaust ports that are right next to each other on the center two cylinders.
454 has exaust ports that are seperate from each other.

Head gasket isn't that hard to replace (not really any harder then a small block). Pull distributor, remove intake and pull head. It's a little more involved then that, but those are the major points to hit.
