PLAN B

This build was 2 parts 1 i have a truck I made to pretty to wheel so I'm building an ugly one I can actually enjoy. And 2. My cousin has been trying to join us for blazer bash but his truck wont be ready so we are surprising him with this one
Got it all rolled out and taped. Tonight I started throwing down the heat barrier. Man this thing will be quiet and should really hold in the cold/hot air.

I'm trying to do a little each night. Hopefully I can wrap up as much as I can do pre cage later this week then I can really focus on sanding.

Doing a little each day.
Plugged some trim and badge holes.
Finished the foam that I'm doing pre cage.
I slightly drilled out the old parking brake mount holes so I could run brake lines through them for a parking brake and I started to apply sound deadner to the doors. Thank goodness I had a really slow day at work so I could hammer out some projects.

So sanding off all this spray paint is going to suck.
Any tips or tricks? I'm half tempted to get aircraft paint stripper...

I have an electric DA sander, a palm sander and a bunch of different blocks. So far the tailgate alone took a couple hours. However I am stripping most the paint off the tailgate to treat and "repair" the rust pitting.

We stripped the paint off my old K5 with the aircraft stripper stuff. It worked, but I wouldn't want to do it again. Luckily I had 2 others helping. I've not removed a lot of paint by any other means, so maybe they all suck and you're just picking your poison.

I'm just glad that I only need to get the spray paint and what's left of the old clear coat off. If I was taking this to bare metal I'd get that tool ashman shared. I watched a guy strip a fender to bare metal in like 15 minutes.. it was crazy.

Little more progress.
The spray paint is gone. The clear coat is gone. Now I need to sand the whole thing one more time in a 320 or 400 grit and smooth out the rust pitting. Amazing how much progress can be made when you frequently switch sanding disks. (I was holding on to the disks to long and thats why the tailgate took forever lol)

Let's just say I'm not having a good time ;) .
I got to the point on this that it has been so much work that now I just want everything nearly perfect so I get the most out of the new paint. I also want to do everything possible to make sure I have an extremely good base for the new paint to bond to. I'd like to be able to power wash without worrying about stuff chipping off. Yup it's still a dedicated wheeler and I'm going to scratch it. I just want it to have a fighting chance against rust and paint flaking.
I did discover that the truck has been painted white twice plus my white spray paint so this will be it's 4th white paint job :)

Going to be sad the first real dent you get ....
I agree. I'll be sad. But I won't be fighting rust and I'll have a memory attached to every dent and scratch from here on out :) . And I'll be able to power wash it without chunks of paint falling off. I think that's what I'm most excited about. We all know how I like to keep things spotless.
I took it down to a buddy of mine who is a retired body guy to have him inspect my work and do a rust treatment on the final spots. Its crazy even without an interior the seat and floorboards had almost no fine vibration. The kilmat was noticeable even in its current state!
