Poll: Choose my next shocks

I want to upgrade my shocks from the current rancho 9000x's to an entry level gas charged monotube style. i will just be doing the front for now. plans for the truck are to be able to go from the trail to the desert and still be functional. also thinking about ditching the front swaybar if the shocks are stiff enough. no way i can drive without it on the rancho's w/ 3" EZ rides.

whatever shocks i choose will be 10-12" travel and using custom mounts.

leaning towards the bilstien 5100 but thought i'd throw in the others for good measure. ideally i'd like to spend under 150 each, but i'd go up to 200 each if its worth it. not sure how much the fox or racerunners are, but i think the cheaper ones can be had for around 200.


also looking for good(cheap) places to buy these shocks. so whatever you choose please post up a good vender for them if you could. thanks

they ones id suggest arent listed there on PIG www.polyperformance.com the bbcs shocks are 15'' travel but they make a smaller set called lwcs i think they are 10-13'' travel

ive heard nothing but good things about bilstein 5100s. pretty reasonably priced too

I have the Sway-away's on the front of my truck.... MORE flex then I need, so, I guess, no problems from them.

Any of the above EXCEPT the Pro-Comps and the Bils stds if it's for a street driven truck.

id say check out the bilstein 5150s. those are some mean little guys. same as the 5150 but with a piggyback resevoir. not so many people run them, but ive heard good things. i would either get those, or if your willing to spend a little more, try the 7100 remote resevoir bilsteins. they rum usually around $180 or so a peice, but they are worth it, completly rebuildable and have t6 bodys.

really? i must have read there product page wrong. i didnt know the 7100 series are under 200. that might be the sweet setup.

Currently I have Bilstein 7100s(10") on the front and 5150s on the rear. Price was $170ea for the 7100s and $99ea for the 5150s. That said I think I should have went with the 7100s on the rear also.

Pros for the 5150s are rubber eye bushings and painted body for all weather protection.
Cons for the 7100s are the uncoated body and possibly the unsealed rod ends for winter driving, will have to see how this plays out this winter. I did coat the 7100s with a couple coats of clear, time will tell.

BTW, truck is a '98 Dodge/cummins and the 7100s have the 5th out of 6 heaviest valving and does an excellent job controlling the heavy truck on the dunes and high speed wash board.

did you change the valving yourself or order it that way? how easy is it to change the valving? do your 7100's have remote reserviors? where did u buy them from?

did you change the valving yourself or order it that way? how easy is it to change the valving? do your 7100's have remote reserviors? where did u buy them from?

The part number, IIRC, was AK7110-R06 with 360/80 valving. They were ordered with the heavier valving. Bought them out of Detroit, E-shocks? maybe. The site is under Bilsteins main page. Customer service was lacking but price was good and somewhat local for me.

Yes, they have remote resevoirs.
