Yeah go for the posi unit that DirtyJim has. A posi has very good road manners and would be perfect for what you need it for. A locker can easily be used on the street, but can chatter a little bit in turns at low speed.

The PowerTrax Lockright is perfectly fine for use on the street. I have one and I DD my truck. I like how if you give it enough gas coming out of a turn you can chirp the tires as the thing locks again.

there is no doubt in my mind (even though i haven`t looked yet) that my rear ends toast, i mean it was making that grinding sound not to much later after i dropped off dave and headed back onto 495....and it just got louder and louder, and then when i got home, about 2 hrs later, i just had time to wash off the mud on my face and change my shirt and head of to work:eek1: :eek1: then i took her right back on the highway:eek1: :eek1: no matter how it looks, i still am puttin the posi in...

Well, Bellingham just got a new High School a few years ago. Its pretty high tech. Because I live just over the border in Franklin, I go to Franklin High and the place is getting to be a dump. You should move down here, we need more Chevy lovers. Franklin is kinda a rich town so a lot of kids just get a car from their parents and most don't even know what engine their cars have. (I wish I was joking)

Yes a locker will be worse. But if a posi is set up tight it will behave the same as the locker until you really need the power to both wheels.

thanks, i thought they were the same as posi, now i wonder whats in my truck? one of these days ill have to open it up and look

well, i opened up my rearend today, i didnt completely drain it, or inspect it, but the oil was grayish and real sludgy, and i felt alot of metal shavings on the inside on the bottom, boy that gear oil stinks!!...it doesnt matter if its toast or not, because i`m still puttin the posi in, it would actually be better if it werent, but from the what i could see, the gears looked ok besides the metal shavings, but i really havent a clue, one thing i notice while i was under there was that it looks like gear oil was coming out of the diff vent tube, as it was all over the place where the outlet of the tube is, and on the gas tank skid pan, i just threw the cover back on because i couldnt stand the smell......just letn you know what i did/found....think it mightve been grindin, well it almost sounded like a wind up toy, except different, if that makes sense, and when i would slow down it would make the noise again and then a clunk, and it only made it (while over 45 or so) while i had my foot on the pedal, but when i was goin 30 it would do it when i slowed down a little, or even let off the pedal for like 15 or 30 seconds

my brothers s-10 blazer has a detroit locker in it and honestly, driving it isnt that bad.

just a little FYI, a common failure point of 8.5" 10 bolts is the stock differential carrier. if you're using a stock open diff carrier, or a Gov Bomb, you havent done anything to prevent this from happeneing again.

i broke the carrier on my 91 10 bolt with bald 31" tires. when i did, it took the ring and pinion with it.

well i`m not worried about it breaking, if its even junk, because i more than likely wont be wheeln it
