Possible carb problems dying while driving, any ideas?

Imicenan-I have a DD and I'm not gonna take a loan I'm going to pay cash in mid to late summer.

In that case I see no problem getting a cheaper truck as long as the body is clean, the rest can easily be learned.
Just start with a clean body, and don't rush into buying since you don't have much anyway.

Ya that's my plan. And I've heard 4-5 grand should be enough for a good one!

And Colby I know there are slim pickings it's hard to find a good one around here. Hopefully in 2-3 months when I have the cash more will be up! And the el paso one does look good 5 hours is quite a way though, I'd be willing to go there if I could get a clean truck!

I like this one to.

It's easy to get stuck anywhere, but my experience has been sand is quite the b1tch. Once you get stuck, you spin the wheels and dig your own grave. :haha:

I love sand. If there werent dunes i wouldnt have bought my blazer. They rock in thexsand compared to a pickup because of all the extra weight in the rear alowing them to hook up instead of spin. If you air down and keep momentum up at all times and dont let it start spinning you will have no problems. Spinning is death, if you start just slow down, put it in lo range and crawl out. I got buried last weekend but i was jackassing around in 2 wheel drive and lost momentum when a jeep cut me off going up a hill, i should have stopped halfway up the hill and backed down but i just matted it and made it to the top but didnt have momentum to go forward, so i sunk it to the frame.

Ima rock the drag strip this weekend :pimp:

That sounds fun I'll have to try it! :D and I'm thinking about becoming a member is it all that much different from the free version I'm on?

Yah, alot of access to more threads. And boobies....

That one likes like hell to me.

Why? Well, it's got the air filter flipped upside down, so the owner thinks he is getting more power. In fact, he's getting less by letting the hot air from the engine compartment into the intake instead of drawing cool air from the snorkel.

"Push button 4x4"? That is not stock.

That is a sign that he's done other "mods" which have probably screwed things up. I'd run away from that one.

Personally I am a fuel injection guy as well. Carbs are nice and easy, but the TBI get better mileage and is dead reliable if it's been maintained.

Yay boobies!:D and wow I need to learn what to look for thanks for the heads up Jessie! And I'm definitely try out the dunes!

Oh dunes are nice, but I didn't need a blazer to go to the dunes or the beach, All I needed was a rear wheel drive with low pressure wide tires, I did get stuck a few times until I learned just how much pressure to have in my tires.
I also did a lot of off road in my 2wd Van until I got my first K5.

K5trs its cool that your looking for a K5, I'm currently not too far from you near Midland Tx and have a buddy in Hobbs. Everything these guys said is true, especially the wiring part. Dont do like me and blow a bunch on a junk K10. I finally found my K30 cucv after a ton of searching on Craigslist and then a 2wd Sub too for really good prices.

If its a wheeler go for drivetrain more that body. It may be pretty easy and cheap to learn and fix these trucks, but it sucks having your rig parked trying to fix something (i know)

ya its hard to find decent ones where the owner doesnt have some super unrealistic price in his head or is a flat out liar about things.

I've always liked the aspect of buying cosmetically beat up trucks with mechanical work all done. I traded a "about to die" 97 olds bravada which I paid $600 for, +$200 for my 8k mi. rebuilt 78 K5 with fresh 35"s, 6" trailmaster lift, and other hop ups. Sure the rockers and quarters are rusted, the body has been hacked to mock up 40" tires on it, and it has a 2 foot long inch wide gash down the door from being grazed by a plow, but heck, why have a beautiful nice looking truck when it will get beat up on the trail if you drive it to it's full capability ;P Plus, people see it and think "what a p.o.s.!" Until I give it some throttle and rumble the block :)

So I'll set my limit at 2500 then haha. But seriously I was thinking around that price range. How do you effectively talk someone down?

I'm the opposite. I'd rather pick up something that is clean and nice, and do some engine work. I suck at body work, and I don't know how to paint, but working on engines is easy enough.

I'm also not the kind of guy who brutalizes my trucks on the trail. I mostly just drive around town and do some light trails.

To me the most important thing is having a clean truck because otherwise my wife and her girlfriends won't join me! :pimp:

Haha I'll keep it clean! But I think I could get a pretty good one for 2500 but I need a negotiation guide or something lol!

You just need to keep reading, and comparing, show us what you find and learn from what we say.
It took me years of making mistakes and buying overpriced vehicles until I learned, you're still 16, just don't get too anxious and give yourself the chance to learn.
You WILL make mistakes at first, and you NEED to make some mistakes, if you rely on someone to help you figure out if the truck is good and what to pay for it, you will never learn.
:waytogo:

Haha so make a decision on my own and suffer or enjoy the consequences? Haha I still have no idea how to pick out bad things in the engine and underneath the car so that's what I need help with! And are engines easy to work on? They sound hard!:dunno:

Hows this one? That wiring under the dash is an oil pressure guage and it makes me nervous. I'd say I could pay 2500 on it from what my limited mechanical knowledge tells me!

You missed the most important advise, be patient and ask a lot and compare so you can develop some knowledge on how to price things and judge them by yourself, then you can start trying not to make a mistake, but know that even if you do, it will be a very important lesson.
