Possible carb problems dying while driving, any ideas?

Haha so make a decision on my own and suffer or enjoy the consequences? Haha I still have no idea how to pick out bad things in the engine and underneath the car so that's what I need help with! And are engines easy to work on? They sound hard!:dunno:

Hows this one? That wiring under the dash is an oil pressure guage and it makes me nervous. I'd say I could pay 2500 on it from what my limited mechanical knowledge tells me!

That one has a dead A/C compressor - no belt. Too many dangly wires under the dash. You can do better.

So the thing that's a little left of the date on the picture? With the white and yellow label on it?

Yessir. Imo ac is not a big deal. Never had a vehicle with it and if i can stand 90 degrees in a black k5 without it, i dont see the point in needing it if it doesnt work. With the door windows open, slider windows open, and tailgate window down, mine doesnt get hot at all, just drive faster if its hot out lol.

Lol you obviously haven't been to new Mexico in summer. It gets rediculously hot man!

Is that dry heat? In MI it gets real humid, and i have been to kansas and it be 95 out but not feel as hot as michigan at 85 and humid as a mofo. But if you need ac, continue your search, id say good luck on finding a rig this old that it still works in anyways.

Ya it's a dry heat which I'm glad about humidity is a killer haha! I'll probably just throw the top off and roll down the windows. Aren't ac's expensive to fix?

Depends on what the problem is. My K5 had a seized compressor (the thing in the photo) and it was $1k to get it completely replaced and repaired at my local shop. For me, it's worth it. The wife won't go with me without A/C, and the dog would melt...

To tell the truth, from what little I saw, that truck did not look all that bad. If it was close by, it might be worth a look.
Price seemed a little low for the apparent condition. Makes me think there is something else wrong.
As for the air conditioning, its one of the very few things on one of those that usually needs some professional help.
Mainly due to regulations and equipment needed.
I do a lot of my own work, but I have an air conditioning background and have most of the equipment.

Odds are the compressor is seized up. It looks like an R4, and they are prone to throw a rod if the pressure gets low.
I would not let that rule it out. Nor the wiring under the dash. Wiring is a pain, but its just time consuming.

The seller is a complete d***. He says 97k original miles but I guarantee it's rolled over a time or 2. I asked him for more pics and he told me I don't have enough time to do stupid s*** like that. It's a 5 hour drive and I only have 1300 saved up so I'm not gonna look at blazers until I have 2500 and up.

Well i wouldnt say dont look. Might as well keep your eye on the market.

Well you don't want to deal with guys like this guy, if he is like this before you commit, imagine what he'd be like after you do.:dunno:
As for looking, anyone that is willing to work with you for looking at the K5 and maybe even test driving it, there is not reason you shouldn't, but if you don't have as much as you are willing to pay, do not lead anyone on.
Keep looking and keep saving money, eventually you will have as much as the one you find is worth and you'll be able to go with confidence and say:
This is what I am willing to pay for this, here is the cash....
That is how you get the deals.
No one wants to deal with someone that doesn't have much money.

Yeah, 5 hours is too far unless you have a better feeling than that. And you need a bigger percentage of the asking price before you do too much.

A lot of times you can get it for less than asking, but probably not that much.
Plus, a 5 hour drive puts you at a disadvantage when negotiating.

He knows you already have that much time and money invested just in looking, and will figure that you should be willing to pay more to not lose that time.

I have walked away from many sales like this after driving way more.
I drove 11 hours each way to buy a truck and although we agreed on the price and was really good until I found a possible head gasket problem, I drove back with no hesitation, I even paid the $650 to diagnose the problem, because I wasn't going to pay $10k for a truck that wasn't ready to roll the next day.:thumb:
I do spend time and money searching and buying, but all in all, I always end up with great deals total outlay of $$$.
You lose a little so you don't lose too much.:dunno:

Ah, now see how much you have learned already? You've identified your first craptastic truck.

You learned...

> Lying about the miles

> No pics because it's a disaster area

> Bad seller

And you're on your way to $2500 trucks now. When you get $4k, you get a whole different class of trucks. Keep saving your money and practicing!!! You're going to get a great truck, I just know it!

You're going to also have to learn how to deal with deceptive sellers. Those are the ones who send you lots of photos, but they all seem to leave out key areas ... like the giant hole in the floor or the complete side without paint.

Follow the buyers guide. A good seller & truck will have nothing to hide!

Never thought of it like that, it would be hard to say no to 2500 dollars for a car your asking 3500 for..way easier than haggling over text or call. What happens if I get there an I don't like it...

You thank the seller for his time and leave!

Remember, you're here to get the BEST truck you can. If it's not amazing for the money, walk away! The more you save and the more trucks you look at the more you're going to realize there are good trucks and bad trucks for the same price. I saw a 1991 on Craigslist a few months back with only 91k miles and the seller wanted $4k for it. I would have snagged that if I were looking.

Take your time and you will find a good deal. Rush and you will see other good deals people got and kick yourself for rushing and buying a turd.
