Post up your long-term \'burb goals...

Okay, I made a post about summer mods...now let's hear what your long-term goals are for your 'burbs.

Here are mine:
-total 8" lift
-D60 up front
-5.13's f/r with detroit locker in rear and lockright up front
-39.5" bogger rears, TSLs front (or 42" TSLs f/r)
-VORTEC 7.4L with 4L80E
-rust free body
-disc brakes in rear
-trimmed fenders
-15,000lb winch
-overall, a clean (but dented) trail-truck that could also be very street friendly

I seriously want a matching trailer too though, (long bed w/ dual tanks and 14ff w/ 35" tires, full cage...)

It never ends and it constantly changes

My long term goal is to still be street legal next year and have a mostly straight body panels. The second one is a long shot.

Yeah, I love your trailer.
A buddy of mine has an 85 2wd that he's yanking the cab off of to replace one of his tow trucks.
He said I could have the rest of the truck, the 6.2 is shot and I think he wants the 400 out of it, but it's a good start.
I just need a place to finish building the trailer at then since he won't let me do it out there and I don't have a welder /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

hmmmm...
first is a motor---383 stroker most likely. however id prefer a cummins 5.9L diesel
then 6" front springs and an ORD shackle flip for the rear end. then fiberglass fenders and 37" swamper IROKS, SSRs, or PJs. oh and a D60 with 4.88s F&R, paint, new bumpers and some interior/stereo work.

Well mine is only a 2wd but I'll chime in.

1. Paint, Black with gold ghost flames. Cowl hood with 454 air brushed on both sides.
2. New exhaust from the heads back.
3. Bling, bling wheels.
4. Some interior upgrades.
5. Rebuild the 454.
6. Rebuild suspention with poly bushings.
7. Rebuild rear axle and add a Gov lock.
8. Gear Vendors overdrive.
9. Shift kit for trans. It was rebuilt before I got it.
10. Switch to 89 to 91 nose.

Really nothing to exciting but it should look good towing the K5 to the trails.

I was looking in to that...You think its worth the cash or are there other mods that would get more bang for the buck??

If the truck is driven a lot then yes it is worth it. I figure the gas savings will pay for itself in less then 3 years. I figure 2mpg from just the overdrive and that might be a low estimate. That's 80 miles per tank which is 8 gall. which equals $16.00. At 1 tank per week that adds up to $832.00 a year. My goal is to squeeze 13 to 14 mpg out of the big block which might be hard to do with the amount of weight of a Burb but I think it can happen. The big key is keeping my right foot out of it. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif Once I get all the bugs worked out and the tune up done I am going to start tracking milage with just some different driving styles and see how much of a difference there is from my normal driving to doing the speed limit and keeping the skinny pedal off the floor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I also found out it does not like Sheetz gas. It burned that up like water so I am tring to stick with Sunoco or Getty which seems to run a lot better in it.

The other thing is not just the overdrive but the gear splitting, you would keep the engine at optimum torque so you get better mileage and your engine lasts longer.
I have been looking into it myself but can't afford it yet.
I did however find a brownie box, gear splitter that goes in between my SM465 and the engine, and for $50 you can't beat that.
I still need something for my Auto Burb.

I have yet to be able to check mpg. Every time I goto fill up the pump stops at $50. I don't think Ive been full since I've owned it /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Then just go back in the next day, every day until you get it full.
I actually sometimes just get another shot and most times it doesn't matter, but a few times I was asked to go to the attendant.

Yeah, WTF is up with that. I had that happen a couple of times at some gas stations but at Sunoco Donna filled the K5 up yesterday and it went to $54.

It's a pre-authorization thing. Basically, it's a way for gas stations to cover their ass in case some guy overcharges his CC. But, I really don't get it. Do they realize how much money they're loosing. There are so many people out there that drive SUV's and trucks that can go over the $50 limit - I mean, that's less than 25 gallons now. And, on top of that, wouldn't it be the CC holder's problem (not the gas stations) if they overcharged their CC?

Finish the D60 with detroit, 4.88's, and crossover.

Bumpers, sliders, and a winch would be nice.

Short/long term goals are:
Install 12" lift springs front
Shackle reversal rear
with 6" leaves rear.
44" tires.

1978 Sub 1500 402 BBC, Th400/Np205 10bolt, 12 bolt (moshers and Auburn), 4" 35's tires: Engine has a slight rod knock when hot and low oil presssure.

Engine:
Option 1 - Drop and rebuild lower end then put on TBI system
Option 2 - Rebuild a 6.2L diesel and swap in

Trany:
Option 1 - Drop and rebuild Th400
Option 2 - Put in 4L80E (have) (my 454 TBI system runs it, - with the diesel I would need to find and buy a controller)

Axles:
Option 1 - Replace the 12 bolt with a 14FF - 8 lug the front
Option 2 - do Option 1 and add a D60 front (have).
Option 3 - leave tham alone (nice 6 lug wheels and tires)

Rebuild the AC system - needs new compressor as a minimum.
Add a third seat - needs brackets installed
Build a tire carrying rear bumper
Minor body work and repaint
Add a front winch bumper and winch (Warn 8274 or 12K Ramsey)
Add some kind of sound system
Oh yeah almost forgot, build and install rock sliders.

You guys let me know which engine,trany,axle options you think I should choose.

Ok Mark here's my opinions on your projects:

Engine:
BB with TBI.

Tranny:
TB400

Axles:
Leave them alone since you have tires and wheels.
Trade me you D60. LOL /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif
