I haven`t tightened all the bolts yet, but as of right now, it looks like the pump is cocked back at the top. I thought I may have bent the bracket that bolts to the front of the pump to the bottom of the water pump, but i took it out, and its pretty straight, even whacked it a couple times to re assure myself it was, then put it back in, and it was the same way...any ideas?

It also looks like I need to space out the water pump pulley too

I also broke my pulley installer, so the p/s pulley isn`t all the way on.

wierd. looks like ya gotta shim the top out where it bolts into the top water pump hole. but that is gonna mess up the clean look. can you get a longer bolt shaft made to space it out a bit and keep it lookin nice maybe, cut some stainless tubing to the right length, that might match okay

It appears that you have some kind of shim or spacers of some sort between the P/S pump and the bracket?

Me thinks you have better luck with correct alternator pulley. :D
:doah::doah: I know

The bolts that go into the block, or just the waterpump itself?

Should I wait until I get the P/S pulley all they way on there until I see if it needs tweaking?

Anyone else using the march brackets come accross this?

How did you remove the pulley? Also you said the pulley isn't all the way on because your installer broke but are you sure the pulley isn't either bent of started crooked?

Removed the pulley with a puller. The installer I bought was cheap, the bolt just bent when I turned the ratchet. The pulley didn`t seem to be crooked, as it didn`t wobble when I spun it by hand.

So, do I have the right bracket?

If your pump is an 82 pump then it's the metric pump and the bracket kit you have should be the correct kit. You have spun the pump with the pulley on it the way it is and it spins true?

Yeah, the few turns I spun it, it seemed to be true , ie no wobble.

The you simply have a misalignment issue with one of the march brackets. I suggest removing the upper bracket for the moment and only leave the pump mounted in the lower bracket and see if the pulley will line up correctly, if not then try the reverse, leave the pump mounted only to the upper bracket and remove the lower. If the pulley won't sit properly with the pump in either bracket then something is wrong with the bracket kit and you'll need to contact whoever you bought it from.

by upper and lower, do you mean the bracket that goes through the pump into the block, and the one in the waterpump that bolts to the p/s pump. or the one that bolts to the p/s pump from the waterpump, and the one that bolts to the bottom of the block, and the back of the p/s pump?

EDIT: If that confuses you as much as it confuses me, forget about it. I figure you wouldn`t suggest removing the bracket that also holds the waterpump to the block, so forget it. DOH! I`ll try this tomorrow. Thanks Scott!

yeah, it says you should have that amount of space in there, and to use the spacer. The spacer they include doesn`t even fit over the bolt, so I had to use washers.

Id install the pulley all the way on to the pump first. Then Id relocate that stupid spacer/washer thing and see if that helps because it looks to me that the spacer is best suited on the other side of the pump to 'shim' the top part of that pump closer to the top bracket.

so take the washers out of the front right side of the pump (if your looking right at the motor from the front), and add them to the back of the pump? or put them on the bracket that goes from the left side of p/s pump on the front, to the water pump?

this:

how is see it there are 3 brackets, the spacers that are on the front side the pump (in between the water pump top bracket and pump) need to go in between the pump and the back bracket. In your first pic. hth

gotcha. If its still light out when I get out of work, and not raining, I`ll give this a shot.
