well, just got back from a little road trip...took a ride down to RI to pick up some things I`ll be needing for the 8 lug swap...pics to follow (tomorrow)

for those interested

(5) 16x10s (these will soon be scuffed up, and prepped to be painted, most likely black, unless someone wants to come up with a cool color scheme)

yea, I know, but its only temporary;) ;) This is just so I can get all set up for 8 lugs, as soon as its all done, i`ll start saving again to do it the right way, don`t you worry;)

don`t worry everyone, the rims will be stripped and painted black:D

What's the offset on those wheels? Looking good Ben!

Well, they`re 2.5" backspacing(i was told they`ll be fine)..I think they will probably sit the same way i do now, on 15x10s with 14.5 almost 15" wide tires, and i think 4 inches of backspacing.

EDIT: Is the 2.5" bs going to be alright?or did I really screw up here?

you'll be good. the tire will just stick out a little more. only really becomes a problem when flexing hard.

so, with only that little amount of backspacing, I`m not going to have any problems such as excessive bearing wear, right?

Nothing at all wrong with the backspacing. I wish I had bought the 2.5 instead of the 4.5 actually. As far as having problems with flexing, it all depends on your particular application. For me, I had to run spacers so I could get more compression- the back tires were hitting the wheel wells. Spacers brought the wheels out more which gave me at least a few more inches of travel in the back. If you don't cut your fenders up then you may have trouble with your tires hitting them especially in front.

cool beans! exactly what I wanted to see...

I`m not afraid of a little :hack: :hack: :grind: :grind: :D :D

out of curriosity your truck runs now...why not just wait until you can pony up for a 14ff/d44 or a 14ff/d60?

Seems like a waste to me...

Not sure what you mean by that...what seems like a waste? getting the 8 lug wheels, or the 8 lug conversion parts?

The reason I bought the 8 lug conv. parts was because I`m getting a deal that will contain a R&P set for my front 10b so I can gear it till match, which I will just run till it breaks..i only payed $50 for the outers and backing plates..will cost about 3-400 to regear...I`ll be running the 10b for a while, most likely until I can get about 1k saved up so I can grab a D60 in really good shape....money well spent IMO, cheaper than what most others have paid...

Also, why switch to D44? From what I`ve seen, they are pretty much the same axle strength wise..

d44 was just implying an 8 lug 1/2 ton or w/e floats your boat...

I had just thought the plan was to go D60 right off the bat....all said and done after you get your's converted to 8 lug I bet you'll be 1/2 way to the price of a d60...But we'll just wait and see...keep us posted.

Well, you`re right, the original plan was to go 60 right off the bat, but plans change...The reason I`m going to convert and regear the 10b, is because I want to see how it will hold up. The longer it holds up, the longer I have to save to get a sweet d60! I know my original plan was to go 1 tons, but I`m going to run the 10b for a while, and see what happens. You`re right, the money I put into my front, could put me 1/2 way to a 60, but most likely to one that will need work, which would bring the price up...thus me running the 10b to save up for a 60..

I may not even regear it. Seeing as we arent having a winter here, , i will only need 4wd to go wheelin. My plan is to not wheel until its done. So if thats the situation, I may just put the 8 lug stuff out front, just so I can get the rear done, and put my 8 lug wheels and new tires on, while I save for a 60..you know, that sounds like a better route for me to take, thanks for talking some sense into me ;)

yeah no kidding bro...as much as we all like to think we will go balls out all the time in reality (especially with guys like us who are in school and working) its sometimes better to just get a safe running truck (in your case just convert to 8 lug outers) and not re-gear them...saves a lot of money and you can just run it in 2wd while you save...

you will have the front 10 bolt for a while. your tires are not big enough to braek the front. if they do i will be very surprised.

yea, look at Glenn, he hasn`t breaken anything yet..When this swap is all said and done (minus the D60), then I`ll have to sit down and contemplate the idea of either regearing my front, or just putting in a 60.

Yeah, maybe a scruffy D60 "core"...

Take another look at MuddinManny's thread for a recent example of what a D60 really costs. The acqusition cost of a D60 is merely the beginning of what gets spent to make it "ready".

Nothing wrong with going 8-lug as a transitional phase. It allows you to get the wheels you'll need anyway, and helps spread the costs out a little. Plus, once you're done with those 8-lug spindles, you can sell them for what you paid (usually)....
