Project (Not-So) Budget Buggy

So Kert, if you want an arm and a leg for normal headers, how much would you charge for the 180's? :p:

Arm, leg and kidney. I hear they are worth a bit these days!:haha:

Made a little progress, got the roof mostly done as well. Roof looks like this from the top:

front
|\|/|
rear

That pattern will be mirrored for the roof above the thrd seat so the center will be a node with 8 points coming into it like this:
|\|/|
|/|\|

Couple pics:

Thinking about back-halving it but sticking with leaf springs and a good anti-wrap setup in the rear...any thoughts?

Added up the costs of the two and couldn't ignore the fact that I'm already way over budget.

Sounds like a plan since linking it is major $$$. Just the heimsand stuff (no link material) was going to cost me about $430. Another $100 if I run coils.

I just cant justify the cost for the little benefits. Only reason i want to link mine was for a better departure angle. I hate not being able to back off a steep incline, I have inverted my shackles a few times from having no other choice.
My leaf and traction bar setup will hook up just as good as any properly designed link setup.

I would just design your back tube so that if one day you did link it you wouldnt have any clearance issues.

alot of the same trails and task can be done with the leafs, tried and true, I have coil overs 2.5 sways for mine, but if I was still with a frame I would strongly consider leafs.

depends on where or what you wheel...to me spending the extrat 2000 to link the back would sure dampin my mood if leafs were and option..not to mention thats not to say you can do it later or next cold season, look at the formula hedrix buggys..cool enough for me:D

Thanks for the input. If I can find another set of those Dodge 52's and still back-half it, It'll only be 2" away from a 90 degree departure angle anyways.

I'd rather save the cost or spend the money elsewhere. The little things are going to end up killing me and I don't wanna heap $2k on top of that. I was gonna link it mainly to keep the tires planted, but a good bar will do that anyways. If I buy Kert's setup I can just use the truss for upper links in the future.

A buddy of mine once told me that running links was like stuffing a sock in your pants...everyone thinks you've got game, but when it comes time to use it people are bound to be disappointed.

85...got anymore unwanted 52's laying around? :D

yeah, good links and ends that will survive on a fullsize are hella $pendy. I'd stick with leafs. That is what my truggy will have 56s from and rear... Kerts anti-wrap in the back.

lookin good so far, you are a couple steps ahead of me. ;) whats you're width at the rocker?

No and im kicking myself for selling you those. I want to pull my zero rates up front but I dont want to move me axle back any. Let me have them back:D

Well, I'll tell ya right now they're gonna sag like a mofo. I've only got 3" of comfortable uptravel without them going negative and MAYBE 4" MAX. I'm gonna try and stick the batteries on the firewall or in the back to keep from putting too much extra weight up there...then again I do have an 8274 with 125' of steel cable sitting up there. :doah:

Thats how my current 52's are. They go negative all the time, doesnt really bother me though.

Try car-parts.com. I found 'em locally for $50 per spring in a couple of places. I can ship you a couple if you want. :rotfl:

you guy are killing me, I had to throw away numurous sets of springs when I cound not give them away:crazy:

Sorry J, just saw this now, I'm 60" wide outside to outside.

damn dood,

I know you work, but there is like 12 hours of the day you dont, plenty of time to get this thing going...

we need pics:D

I'm at school, 2 hours away from my garage. ;)

That, and I have $200 to last me until my first paycheck in december, 1 stick of tube left, and a girlfriend.

You'll see plenty of pics of a tube bed I'm building for my friend in December, but that's about it. :haha:

Also, I'm thinking about buying a CC dually next year, fixing it up, and having a competent tow rig...then building a single seater that's light and short enough to be hauled on the bed of the truck...so I'm spending most of my time figuring these plans as well as my leg room/x-brace problem out.
