Project Snow Bear K20!

Ever since my first swap into a yj I low-key wanted them under a square. I can't seem to ever do it though. I've got an excursion and an 87 f150 getting the 05 axles right now. F150 is getting ori struts too lol.

These axles are the shit.

Off track for a second but here is the Double Din head unit that some jack leg installed in the dash of my truck. I've since realized it is a pretty good location. I'm going to clean up the install and put a Double Din head unit in it's place with GPS and DVD player. Ya know....cause I need one. I like having GPS and NAv in the truck.

Just finished ordering 200 bucks in ARP bolts and studs. MAN that gets expensive quickly. Header bolts, flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolts, bell housing bolts....dang.

Ok back on topic:

I had a lot of stuff to do around the farm today so I didn't get anything much done with the truck. BUT I did measure centerline on the radius arms from the f-350. It measured 31.5 inches. Measuring my k-20 frame it looks like there is enough room to mount the rear radius arm mounts directly to the frame versus doing an outrigger or flange on the exterior of the frame. Now then keep in mind that I will still need to box the frame in that location or rather I am going to do that. It's not exactly centerline to centerline correct but the bushings have deflection built in and the centerline is only off by about 1/2" so 1/4" per side. That's pretty damn close. This might be easier than I thought. What I am planning is to find a constant on the frame, like a pre existing hole or measuring from the frame holes on the crossmember. Using those on both sides and build forward. Relocating the front axle 1.5" forward if possible.

On a side note I ordered lug nuts for the axles today...HOLY CRAP. Don't buy any more than you need for sure, they ain't cheap.

Back on the radio....How is your air/heat getting from the blower to the drivers side? The duct is normally right behind your radio, right? I don’t remember there being enough room to move it around.

Snap some more pics of your dash. I’ve been considering some dash mods and I need ideas.

I'll get a couple for you, i haven't done anything to it. It was all there when I got it. I will be sourcing a double din radio to fill that hole from the old GM radio that doesn't even work...

No idea, I haven't removed it to find out. heat works awesome and defroster works perfectly so I have not a clue.

Same. I really don’t want to put a double din in a console or overhead. I just don’t see there being room to do anything keeping the hvac.

Forgot that I had a picture of mine with the dash off. You can see the hard plastic tube.

I will remember this!

@Vombrown this is an exciting build! Really hope it all comes together for you!

Wanna lend a hand? Find me some reasonably priced used 12-14" coil over shocks....LOL I'm running out of play money and I think I have about all the large ticket items I need. Coil overs are the last on my list and one of the most expensive. I'm selling various things off of the stock k-20 to fund a set now. As soon as the weather changes to decent I will be rock and roll.

Haha I’ll lend all the hands I can via CK5!

Been doing a lot of measuring and planning today on the suspension ties. I'm concerned with where the transmission crossmember will end up with the NV4500 swap. It is fairly important as far as deciding where to locate the rear link mount for the radius arms. So what I decided to do is remove the problem, problem solved!. The transmission and engine won't go in until sometime later. Therefore I don't really know where they will land. My plan now is the removal of the sm465 crossmember. Then I will use angle or channel to skin the frame on both sides. Locating the rear radius arm mount on this piece. Then when the transmission is installed I can build a steel cross member where it needs to be and weld it to these two steel pieces on each side. Essentially creating a one piece cross member that incorporates the link mounts. This will allow me to tuck the cross member up higher, which I like, mount the transmission mount wherever it needs to go and make it stronger in the process. Tying the two rear link mounts together is an added plus.

Removal would be as easy as popping a couple link bolts and dropping the assembly in one piece. This will also give me a much better platform to brace the NP205 on back of the NV4500. I like it

The NV4500 mounts in the same location as the 465. So no need to move the cross member. The difference is that on your '81 you should have a flat cross member with 2 separate tranny mounts. The 4500 mounts higher than that so a 3.5"ish spacer between the mounts and tranny is needed to take up the difference. That's it
