i have heard of mounting the carb backwards---that is primaries closest to the firewall, secondaries closer to the front, to prevent stalling on steep inclines.

Quadrajet offroad modification builds?

On my 75 with the 350/q-jet I never modified it for off road. Just dialed it in with a rebuild and factory settings. No problem off road at all. That same 350 was in Larry's truck many moons ago with an Edlebrock carb on it. The edlebrock ran like crap off road. Loaded up and stumbled when climbing. He later put an "off road" kit in it and used it on his 454, but it worked the same way. I can safely say it was that edelbrock carb that sold Larry on going EFI and not looking back.
