My buddy is thinking about buying a 73 3/4 ton 4x4. He says it has a d60 up front but i thought 60's only came in 1 tons. He says he read up on it and its a 60. Which one of us is right?

Dana 60's did not get used in any GM Truck until 1977 and later years. It is easy to check if it is a D44 or D60 by looking at the web in the casting below the front cover. It will say either 44 or 60 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If he read on it and it says it's a 60 then it is.
Nobody said you can't put one on a 3/4 ton and just like we do, someone could have done it.
Just make sure you actually read it on the axle don't rely on anyone telling you.
Same way I have seen 1ton's with 10bolt 8lugs before because people would take it out and replace it before they sell.

And here all this time I've been passing the later 70's thinking that 75-back had the 60's in them...... /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif So they were in the later 70's till when? And only in 1-ton trucks (factory)? no factory 3/4 got any? Help me out here y'all, I'm learning /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

All 1 tons from 77 on had the 60, from 88-91 that would only include the crewcabs since the rest of the 1 tons were the new IFS body style. No 3/4 ton ever had a 60 from the factory.

This only applys to Chevy. I know that is what we are talking about, but it is important to remember.
