I've got a random cylinder attached to the side of the fuse block on my 1980 Jimmy. It looks like it's attached to a constant on voltage spot from the block. Any idea what it is?

looks like a condenser. They are use as noise filters for alternators, blower motors, and distributors. Keeps it out of the stereo

Would it have been a special addition for something? I’ve never seen one before.

It could have been facyory or a dealer install for a radio noise complaint.
My 77 has 3 of them. 1 at blower motor, 1 at tach pick up, and another under dash in radio wiring

Could it be removed without causing any issues?

I’m swapping in an LQ4/4L80e and doing a bunch of wiring updates if that makes a difference.

What is the metal body of it connected to? If it's just clipped to the plastic, there is no circuit and it's not doing anything.

Either way, nothing will break if you remove it. Worst thing is probably noise from your wipers or turn signals or something in the AM radio.
