Decoded my RPO codes today. I have code 12U which is (according to every site I can find on the net): Primary Color, Exterior Silver Metallic.

Problem is, my truck is white. Always been white - I've owned it for 12 years and never seen a sign of silver on it. Never been painted. Are the RPO codes wrong? Anyone else with a white truck have a 12U RPO code in the glove box?

As I recall GM white was always code 12 on trucks on the older models, the "U" means "Upper"--if it were two-tone it would have another number code with an "L" ,like 34L,that stands for "Lower"...

I dont know if the numbers in Dupont I used to sell are still the same, but I remember "817A" was a popular GM white truck color, and "5338" was another "Polar White" that was used on many..

Ah, I see. I guess 12U was one of those codes that got used repeatedly with different meanings. Linen White makes more sense. As far as 'Upper', I dunno. I didn't see another RPO code for 'Lower' on my list. I did have 12K -white top - which is correct.

On that options tag it appears the "WA" numbers at the bottom might be the paint codes,GM went to water based paints in the 80's and used a "WA" prefix on the codes, still had the "L" and U" for lower & upper colors..there are probably several different tones of white on a water based paint formula,I remember mixing them and matching them was a pain for both the painter and the guy mixing them...

The dupont numbers I gave in my last post were for laquer and enamel,so if you have a water based paint code, dont go by those, they are likely different..

My code is actually different although it still says 'white'. At first, I was just decoding the 3-character RPO codes and saw the 'silver' 12U code. Didn't know the paint code was at the bottom. Now I'm wondering what the 12U actually means for my truck.

I went through the RPO code spreadsheet 1 by 1 with what is on my sticker and some of them aren't even on the list :dunno:. They don't appear to be 100% correct either imo. Mine has a 12K which according to the codes is cloth, graphite when my interior is clearly red.....

12U has several different lines it represents, one of which as stated before is the linen white.
