This is purely from a technical standpoint. The antenna size does not matter to me at all.

I had one on my last truck that was awesome, clear as a bell. I've got one on this truck that is not so awesome. What are the pros / cons of these antennas? Can I make mine better? The guy I got the last one from said it was 'tuned' and it did look a little different.

I'm only comparing the two I've had because the setup is exactly the same just different antennas. Same mounting everything.

The radio is a Cobra 29 LTD BT

I'm pretty much a newb with CB's so feel free to comment. I just want the best I can get with what I have. If I need to switch antennas I will though...

Thanks!

Could use a little more information about the current antenna? Is it the same as the previous one? Shorter? Longer? different material? The topic mentions 102 inch ss whips? CB radio being 27mhz for a full wave length antenna it would have to be 11.11 meters long or 36.5 feet. that would be the optimum antenna length, but not really feasible in reality. So the antenna are usually 1/2 or 1/4 of that in length. 1/2 wave or 1/4 wave. Many factors to work with.

Is the antenna in the same mounting position as the previous truck? Is there more rust or body damage? Good grounding to the body/frame/battery?

if it is not tuned it will sound and transmit like sh!t. best way to tune it is first have someone who knows what they are doing, then pay them to do it!!!!!! ask any local truck driver who is the best and most relyable around your area and go to them. they can put an swr meter on the coax where it hooks to the radio and tell how much to trim(from the whip or coax) to get the right setup. plenty of radio shops in the DFW area.

Sorry I didnt reply sooner. The same day I posted this I tuned the radio to the antenna and wow what a difference. The setup is perfect loud and clear for about a mile line of site as tested with another vehicle. Thanks for the comments!
