I've found a 60 with 4.10's and a detroit in it. But I'm going to run 5.13's. Will I have to replace the carrier and locker or can I just bolt a 5.13 ring gear to the carrier already in place. I'm a total newbie when it comes to 60's. Are they anything like the 14ff where I can use the 4.10 carrier and get thick gears.
Having the locker is a main selling point but if I have to toss it, then the deals not really worth it.

QUESTION #2:
whats the difference between standard and reverse rotaion? is standard for front 60's and reverse for rear?

I just checked the yukon gear catalog. It shows a part number for 5.13 thick gears(fits 4.10 carrier) but thats on reverse rotation gear sets.

New question: whats the difference between standard and reverse rotaion? is standard for front 60's and reverse for rear?

ok......Justin found me a 60. I don't know yet if i don't have to swap carriers and the locker then yeah but if I have to swap then no

just messin with ya LOL......

for a front gm dana 60's uses a standard rotation.
and a ford HP dana 60's uses a Reverse rotation.
not sure about rear dana 60's

high pinon = reverse cut

low pinon = std gears.

sometimes on ebay i have seen just the carrier for the detroit 60 and you just swap your guts to it.

oh yeah you could use a ring gear spacer for the front. plus that detriot is not installed in the 60. so you could if you wanted to sell it, it's brand new in the box.

I really don't want to have to deal with the hassle of having to sell of parts of something I just bought to pay for it. I have enough I'm gonna have to get rid of here pretty so to try and recover the funds.

I'll poke around on ebay tonight and see if I can find anything

pretty much just echoing info that was already said, the only difference between std. and reverse cut gears is the gear itself and the centersection. carriers are the same.

there are thick gearsets for the HP axles, but not for std. like smokkey said, you either need a ring gear spacer or a whole new 4.56 and up detroit.

I ordered 4.88 gears for my 60 last week. It has 3.73 gears in it now and a new carrier was around $60 from Randy's.
