I'm talking with a guy in Diego Garcia right now on 20 meters RTTY.
Man I wish I could get into HAM right now. Have a ICOM IC730 sitting in my kitchen, access to all the tuners and amps that I could ever want, yada yada.
I do comms for a living, and don't want to come home to fool around with what I do all day. Kansas to DG before it's even dark is good. What rig do you run? What antenna?
Ten Tec 544. Homebrew square loop, indoors nonetheless. MFJ 1278B TNC, and an Icom 2100H VHF powering a copper J-pole.
Can't have the base set up in a apt. so I'm selling my President Lincoln to a friend that's driving big truck over the road. I'll miss it, but I really don't have a use for it anymore.
Here's my rigs:
Ten Tec 544 through an MFJ-704 low-pass to a TT manual tuner/switcher. Controlled via the MFJ-1278B TNC. That photo has my Azden PCS-6000 VHF radio, I left the nice one at home. I also have a dual-band Icom W-32A HT.
Yaesu FT-1000MP Mark-V Field with a complement of Filters, a Dentron MLA-2500 Amp, Dentron Super Tuner, 2/440 DX PacketCluster Node.
Force-12 10/15/20/40M Beam at 40 feet and Cushcraft A3WS 12/17/30M at 35 feet for the HF Bands, Shunt-fed tower for 75/80/160M and a K9AY Loop for Low Band Receive.
For field operation Ill take the rig and my Hustler 6BTV or wire and external tuner.
