I recenlty changed the oil in my 85 6.2 and the next day I had a pretty good oil leek. Since the truck has 185K it was probably ready for one. I am not sure where the leak is as it is coming from the transmission dust cover so the question I have is if this is a rear main seal can they be replaced with just pulling the rear main or I am looking at pulling something like the transmission.

The rear main can be replaced by pulling the oil pan and the rear main bearing. Make sure you replace it with a 2 piece rubber seal. I think your engine will have an asbestos rope seal, which doesn't hold oil very well. The 2 piece rubber seal can be used in place of the rope seal.
