ok 8.1L sittin there...
trans/xfer on ground. look at this...do i regasket, clean and paint?

trans drops out of 2nd if u get off gas... u know.. low forward... 1st pull back.. 2nd to right and up...

Id rebuild all of it for sure, might as well. If you pulled it out, there were no problems and no leaks, id leave it.
 
Its an easy rebuild. you just need a shop press, a few pieces of pipe to press with, a bearing splitter set to pull some of the bearings off, and some quality heavy duty external snap ring pliers. Well documented online. The only "hard" part is pressing on the main shaft bushings, if they get crooked at all they will crack. Pretty simple with some heat/freezer use.
