Rebuilding the Quadrajet

I found the middle section (float bowl) to be warped on the top. How would this be made strait in the vise? Also great thread.

Ahh another note. Don't take the throttle plates off the throttle shafts (unless you have to, like to bush the primary throttle shaft) as you run the risk of breaking the small screws off. You can grind the staked portion off, etc., but not worth it if the shafts don't HAVE to come out.

The throttle plate screws snaped on mine. I did not file or hamer out the back of the screw. I believe that this needs to be done. With the heads striped I believe I'll have to file the back off and then drill a hole to use a thread extractor. My concern about filling the back of is that I might hit the throttle shaft.

Way too big a waste of time.

Get a 5 dollar core carb from a wrecking yard, swap meet, etc., and replace the whole shaft.

I obviously need to read ALL these threads before replying!

Charged the battery again and I Starting to make room around the Jimmy now so I can work on the brakes and finish the ****ing q-jet.

So it runs pretty fine, but I know nothing about diagnostics. I don't know how it should sound and everything. Also, I think my choke is stuck because it doesn't do anything. It idles at 1200 or so rpm. I can't set the fuel mixture yet because i need to figure out the choke. Do I just wiggle the linkage around to see if it's binding or what do I do? Can I take a picture to see if you guys think its on right?

I want to bring it into the garage for the winter so I can fix the rust in the back...

Thanks

You can always pull the aircleaner and see if the choke blade is completely vertical when the engines hot. If it's not, you can force it fully open and see how the idle is.

There's a reason I say not to mess with the choke linkage when rebuildind unless it's absolutely necessary. I believe it's the most likely part of a rebuild to cause headaches trying to sort out once you are done.

Dorian, I know I should have taken your advice and leave the choke alone, but I wanted to clean the whole carb inside and out. So I needed to take it off. So I hope it's easier than what I am begining to think...

James, I will try to get a picture today, thanks.
