So I started my 60 build this weekend. I got all my Kingpin rebuild kits and wheel bearings and everything and am ready to go.

Scored Kingpins.

First challenge is my axle is not bolted to anything. The best idea i could come up with is wedge it up against my tire and then chain it to the truck. Aircraft tie down chains tightened up and it doesn't move anymore:D Things are going good.

I don't have any hex stock and nobody in my town could get me a 7/8 allen so I went with a lugnut and a cut off stud inside. Others have used this method with success.

1/2 inch breaker bar and a 4' piece of pipe should work.

Yeah maybe not. I about busted my ass when this thing letting go. Good thing my K5 caught me or I would have ended up flat on my back.

To the store to get another breaker bar and maybe a step down just in case so I can use my 3/4 drive stuff.

Hmmm

Second bar. Craftsman...didn't take half as much to break this POS:mad:

Maybe the step down and the BIG tools.

So at this point I am out of tools:mad: The lugnuts are starting to strip anyway so scratch that idea. Big THANKS to 4x4HIGH for sending me a chunk of his 7/8 hex stock. I ordered a 6 point 3/4 drive socket so I can use the big tools for this job since 1/2 drive stuff apparently is not up to the job:mad::mad:

Oh yeah remember when I mentioned above that I almost busted my ass, but my truck caught me. I started working on rebuilding my rear spring packs. A few hours later I glance over.....

WTF happened here. Only took me a second to remember how that could have happened.

:eek1::mad::haha::haha: Not like my body was perfect or did I plan on keeping it straight for ever, but I did plan on maybe selling my straight power doors.

Oh well I guess:wink1:

your gonna need a bigger breaker bar. :D :haha:

I broke a 3/4" drive ratchet doing mine years ago, so I made a 4' allen wrench:D:D

Been there with the kingpins-they suck.Best way I've seen to get 'em off is to use a piece of pipe about 4 ft. long on a 3/4" breaker bar and 6 point and use a come-along back to the other end of the axle.If you'll set it up like that, get a buttload of pressure on it,and then start heating the outer C around the pin it usually pops right off.I saw a guy do it like that here and since then I have done it 4 times myself. It's smooth like butta.

I sent him a piece of my 7/8" allen wrench today, hopefully the socket he bought is a 3/4" drive impact socket.

Yep it sure is. Got it at Napa.

I never replaced mine but I think this is a much smarter way to remove them

:haha::haha::haha:There are some pretty good ideas in there as well as some good ol Pirate humor :wink1: ****in winch a pipe wrench and a tree:haha:

If I was doing it.....

1. Get correct allen 7/8" allen stock, put 3/4" drive 7/8 IMPACT socket on allen key.

2. Put 1" impact gun on socket

3. Heat up with torch, pull trigger on 1" impact gun and hold on...

4. Have beer and do victory dance.

Yep :haha:

Cutting material out of the kingpin removes its ability to hold on to the knuckle which means it will probably come out very easy. It wouldn't take much time to cut it like that.

Im sorry, but I couldn't stop myself from laughing while reading this. Especially when i saw the dent

i welded on a old large wrench with a arc welder and got it good and hot, put on a 3 or 4 foor breaker bar from hell and drove another blazer into the breakerbar.

redeck, but at least I was safe oin the blazer:D

on the king pins in the buggy I tossed in a couple thick washers and called it good..

It's ok I meant to write it with a little bit of humor.

Can't really get mad when things don't go right. It is a 30 year old axle. Yeah the door sucks, but oh well. It creased a little bit at the bottom but it might push out from the inside.

Yep :haha:

Yeah I may try that just as an added measure of success when my 7/8 stock and socket come in.:D

I put a dent exactly like that in my trail rig, when I used a tree to make a left turn. I had no door panels so I just punched the inside of the door and out came the dent :D

Yeah i did the same thing on my driver side door, but managed not to crease it. Just lots of scrapes, but it popped right out.:D

I WIN!! Me 2 Kingpins 0..well I guess we can give Kingpins 1 because of my door:haha:

Scott (4x4High) sent me a short iece of Hex stock and with my 6 point socket and 3/4 inch drive stuff. They both broke loose with a good pull on the end of a 6 ft cheater:wink1:

Resdu for a little clean up and some primer/paint!
