Ok so I have a factory tach. Long story short it got fried. Got fixed, and then got burned again. Only it works sorta.

I was thinking about maybe buying a tach like an autometer or a sunpro, and basically swapping faces on them to get it to work, rather than pay $400 to yearone to fix it again.

How did it get fried twice?? I'd want to find out before I install another just to get fried again.

Also, where did you send it to get fixed, and if yah don't mind how much?? I have one from a big truck that has the small fuel gauge in with the tach, want to put it in my 89.

I have a complete factory tach cluster if your interested in staying stock....

Well I had a higher output alternator from Napa. They replaced it twice but it must had a bad regulator. It over charged the system and before the fusable link on the firewall could burn off it fried my tach and my cb I had at the time. Before we figured it out what happened I sent the tach off the get repaired at yearone, and it was was close to $400 at the time. They painted the face and put everything new in it. Then a month later it did it again. Now ever since it doesn't work as good, sits at 900 rpm then suddently works, but I think it registers higher than what it is actually reving.

I saw tachman.com. That they show a new circuit board that is updated. Do they just sell the parts or do you have to send it in to recalibrate it?

Or what about taking a junk cluster and retro-fitting auto meter gauges into it that fit the holes on the bezel?? I know it's probably been done. Who has done it with success? I would probably use a gauge that looks older but has more accuracy and better light.
