Richard's Funky Fire Truck

He's fixed that factory flaw before.

Martin

This will be staying auto for awhile. I'll only be going standard if the th400 breaks or if a 3500 setup falls into my lap. Either way, I hope I'm at least a year away from a swap.

I got 3" hd tuff country with a 8ft fisher hd plow on the front of my k30 with no problems . rides good with or without the plow on . plow is in the 800-850 lb range :eek1:

my k30 has the 3" hd front / ord flip kit rear on bobbed down frame / 2" body lift and cleared 37" tires just fine. pics in my sig line below under project stubby j.r. has 35" tires on it tho in pics . but have had 37" hummer gy tires on it .

That's good to hear. I imagine I'll be running a smaller plow. I want something light weight and easy to mount. I'll really just be doing my driveway and maybe some neighbors if they need a hand.

Looks like you scored big !..

I'm surprised they auctioned it off without painting over the decals ,usually thats a requirement that must be done before it's sold--a guy I know bought a used police car at auction that didn't have the police logo painted over, and he eventually got pulled over by a RMV cop when he saw passenger plates on it,said he'd have to get the lettering removed..
...it'd be cool if you could leave it that way, you'd probably never get pulled over in it!..

I'm fairly efficient at getting pulled over. :doah:

The lettering will definitely stay as long as it lasts.

The Plans:

I bought this truck to go with some land up I'm Maine I recently purchased. I'm hoping to build a cabin and shop up there through next spring and summer. I don't actually know how to build a house or garage, so that should be interesting. I may make a separate thread for that or include it here.

At least 37 inch tires to get the rpms down

4 inch lift (I think)
- shackle flip from DIY is in the mail
-front springs tbd, but they will be off the shelf

1 inch body
-also in the mail from DIY

Flatbed

Snowplow

Sweet deal Rich!

Definitely keep the FD decals, but you gotta toss a strobe like setup on top :deal:

Where's the place in Maine? Don't forget I live right on the border of Maine, so give me a call if you need help up there.

Thanks man. The land is slopeside up at Mt. Abram. That's about 15 minutes from Sunday River so it's still a drive from your place, but you'll be welcome any time. Right now you'd need a tent.

great score Rich, I keep an eye on my local F/D and am waiting for their early 80's K30 to get sold...township is small enough that most of the fire dept vehicles are at least 20+ years old.

Nice score! :thumb:

Why a 3500? I'd think the granny-gear NV4500 would be more suitable to plow work... :dunno:

My older brother got a 1978 K30 "rescue wagon" from the FD in his town at an auction many years ago--had a 400 SB,TH400,and a Dana 60,NP-205 ,dual altenators, and a special aluminum body on the back so it could double as an ambulance..thing was rotted pretty badly though ,needed fenders, inner & outer, rockers, floors patched, but still,it had a lot of potential..I think he gave 700 bucks for it..it had well under 100K on it,I forget the actual mileage..

Sadly he let it sit in the yard a good 5 years or more, and ended up trading it to a friend in exchange for painting one of his other antique vehicles..

That's definitely up there :doah:
I should have figured a ski bum wanted to live on a mountain

I really prefer how the 3500 shifts. I also think it's gear ratios are a far better match to the power band of the 6.2. The gaps in shifting with the sm465 are kinda rough on the chevy blazer. I lose a lot of steam going uphill and downshifting.

Realistically, I'm not ready to start discussing a tranny swap because I know I'll talk myself into it.

That trailer would definitely haul a transmission home for you.

You're welcome!

I think I have seen it done before. I don't much care for it, but it's better than a flatbed, and the price is okay.
