onto Stupid Duty tow hooks. As some of you know, the SD tow hooks are fully closed. Would the right way to hook the strap/rope to the hook, be putting it through a shackle, then putting the shackle on the hook?

Just curious as to the right/safest way to do, so we don`t end up injuring someone out there.

TIA

I've always just ran it through a shackele on closed hooks. In a bind I have run it through the loop in the strap but it can be a real pain to get it back off.

Cool, thanks Mark. I figured you could run it through the loop, but with the rope and the strap I have, it would be a pain to get off.

Yeah I've pulled them so tight before that I have had to cut the strap to get it off. It seems like the strap tightens in to itself.

It helps to put a stick or the like in the loop before the pull, chances are you can pull the stick out afterwards and the strap can be worked loose again...

Except between two straps :wink1:

i drove over a hill and saw a dufus trying that one. i actually slid down in the seat of the k5 because i knew what was about to happen. yep, on strap snapped and the shackle ended up stuck in the side of a tree:doah:. that would have been slightly unpleasant to get in the chest.

my buddy did htis to get his truck out...went through his windshield, f*cked that and his roof support up:eek1: idiot.

Another advantage to using a shackle is when you are getting pulled out of the mud and the truck pulling you gets stuck too, you can undo the shackle to get the strap off. If you hook say to two trailer balls (not that that is safe or recommended) and the strap is tight, then you can't get the trucks apart.

Some high school friends were wheeling one weekend.Shackled 2 straps together.Strap broke, shackle went through back window, hit the dudes g-friend in the head. She instantly went from 17yrs.old going on 2.She was in a coma for 7 mos.and when she finally came out of it,had to learn everything all over again.I see her every once in awhile and she still isn't the same.

Play it safe.Your families will enjoy you longer...If they do now.
