Road Respect and Your Blazer

I've got a MT and get a lot of tail sniffers ... especially off the line. A lot of times they will try to whip around me but by the time they get next door ... I've got her in the top range of 2nd and usually hang with them side by side and make them nervous. If it is around 30 -35 mph streets, I"ll just leave her in 2nd and the noise right next to them makes them nervous too. Also, I love just putting her in 2nd as a brake when I've got a tail sniffer. Teaches them real quick to back off. Also, I've got the GE high output lights (low beams) on the K5 ... claims to have 80% more light and I guess they are right because I get the b.s. high/low beam from on coming traffic all the time ... hey they are street legal and for low beams so screw them ... they really hate it when I put the high beams on and just leave them ... I'm just giving them a choice ... bright or brighter?

OK i'll get in on this one.
I run three big air horns under my hood. When ever I have an issue with a none beliver I will lay into it and it goes like this FFFFRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Loud

Oh yea. I almost forgot about one of my most pleasant driving experiences. In high school some punk kid drove a Mercury Tracer under the a$$ end of my Blazer. It was a '79 with 35's and a 6 inch lift. It did $800 worth of damage to his car and bent one of my tailpipes. After school I bent it back and never found anymore damage. And the cop said it was his fault. hahaha

Chevy good...Ford bad

Its a mixture of attitude, tires, dents and pipes.
Yea, I traded paint with a semi-truck going 60.
Its not that scary.

When driving Blue Knight people respect it big time. For one its large and looking at grille in your rear view mirror intimidates people. Other owners of trucks, broncos, and Blazers do that pull up long side you and check who is taller while driving down the freeway thing. I have even caught someone pulling in next to it in a nice truck realizing they are being dwarfed by its height and tires and then go find another parking spot no where near me. I have had ladies leave phone numbers on the windshield asking to go 4 wheeling. It also gets local law enforcement repsect because of its search and rescue duties and the times I have done road rescue. I even one time drove up along side a beaaautiful blue bronco. It was identical to mine but a Ford. We pulled off to the side of the road and compared aheemmmm notes. I only drive my blazer on the weekends. I miss driving it as a daily driver. People just get out of your way when they see all that metal and howling of tires coming at them. They know I couldn't stop in runways length if I tried in an emergency

Thanks for the replies.

Try not to run anybody over. (if you can help it)HaaHHHaa

I get all kind of respect on the road and I think it has something to do with the Bumpers on my truck. The paint and light bar helps too, I've been asked if I'm some sort of Cop or something. Their was a cop in town that asked me which department I worked for so he could transfer there too.

I had a nissan rear end my 74 K5 Cheyenne On I 25. I slowed when the speed limeit changed and I felt a little bump and then I felt my truck accelerating. I looked in the mirror and couldn't see anything, so I turned around and saw the red of the top of the roof. Totalled out the cute little sports car. She had her cruise on and didn't notice I slowed down. when she did she hit the brakes but was wedged on the bumper. We were in rush hour traffic so I just hammered the gas and drug her to the shoulder. cops mesured 1/2 mile of 4 wheel skid from her car. She was thinking I should get in trouble for pulling her to the shoulder then the cops complimented me on doing it. OH I did get red splotch on the chrome bumper about the size of a softball. If you can't stop smile as you go under.

1 week after getting my K5 back from having the motor replaced, my wife was sitting on the road waiting to turn left up our drive when a punk in a little Honda went under it because he said he was not paying attention. I heard the bang and just knew what it was. I ran outside to see the damage and I don't know who was more scared, my wife or the honda kid. She knew I would be major pissed off and I was. The kid immediately started apoligizing to me and after I seen the damage I felt bad for him so I just said watch where you're f***in going from now on. His car had gone under all the way up to the windshield. Lucky for him it stopped there. The blazer is now waiting for a new rear bumper and the tank is pushed up and the guage doesn't work anymore. His ins.company gave me only $235 for bumper and tank. What a rip! lady adjuster said since it was an 83 thats all they could do. $75 used bumper,$75 used tank and $85 labor. I figured when I find someone to repair the gate hinge rot, the tank & bumper will have to come off so I will replace it then.

you canb build a bumper out of 8" C channel for a lot cheaper than even a used bumper (at least here in Oregon)
and it is a lot stronger than a stock bumper.

Are you kidding me? That's exactly why I told my husband I wanted a K5. I went from a Dodge Intrepid to my 88 K5 Blazer. NOBODY messes with me!!
