I just tried to order some new glow plugs for the Suburban from Rockauto, and I when checking out I got the banner warning that Rockauto doesn't have a D.C. tax agreement so they couldn't ship to me. I've been here for 10 months and I'm sure I have ordered something from them here.
I ended up getting a set from carparts.com for $2 more a plug. Has anyone else run into this?

I don’t know anything about this particular tax issue but I’m not surprised. The states have “lost” a ton of tax revenue because of ecommerce sales from out of state retailers so they’re cracking down on retailers.

Weird. Just ordered some parts and no issue for me, but I have been hearing rumors about the e-commerce tax.

I've noticed getting hit for it more often lately....

Well it was a good place to get parts while it lasted. Driving to a buddies house in Northern VA traffic to pick up parts isn't worth the savings.

I have found I can't order parts listed as various mfg, because of the CAL prop 65 cancer warning, is not specific to Various

Here in CO, I've been getting letters from Summit and Speedway Motors with a list of my transactions telling me I need to declare them on my state income tax because they didn't collect tax on the purchases. It also says they send a copy of the statement to the state. I don't mind paying the sales tax, but I do mind the idea of having to pay it as one large lump sum at the end of the year. I'd rather pay at the time of purchase. I irritates me they can take the time to send the letters to me and the state, but they can't take the time to file CO state sales tax.

I've found myself buying a lot less from Summit since they started doing this.

The local Autozone has AC 60G's for just over $9 each...
I think Rock Auto's price would be higher, especially after adding in shipping..
Sometimes it's best to just use local businesses..
Online prices look good until you add in all the taxes, shipping, etc, and then what if you get the wrong parts or a defective one ?..now your liable to have to pay to ship it back, and spend time trying to straighten out the mess..

that's some BS because you know they're doing this so they don't lose the sale up front. It's not hard to setup a sales tax account and remit sales tax :doah:

That's how I feel about it. I understand it can be a burden to potentially file sales tax in 50 states, but I personally file sales tax in 6 different municipalities plus the state for our business. Seems like a company the size of Summit could state sales tax. Hell the bookkeeping program we use does 75% of the work.

I have not seen Jegs send out one of these tax letters yet.

Exactly, the software does most of the work. We withhold and pay employer taxes in over 20 states with dozens of city and local taxes. Sales tax is a breeze in comparison.

It's probably eGore. He invented the internet, probably will take credit for eTaxes too.

just used lmc to look up a part and front page in BOLD red banner " we are now collecting state sales tax "
