What is shedule 40 pipe thickness? That is what I have welded to .188 wall square tubing. No dents and my truck is HEAVY not as heavy as willyswanter.

It depends on the diameter. 1 1/2" Schedule 40 is .145"

I thought 1.5" sched. 40 pipe is 0.140" wall thickness, hence "40" ????

Nope. Schedule 40 varies in thickness based on size. "Schedule" is a matter of standard, has nothing to do with wall thickness.

Wall thickness is a worthless figure in pipe anyway--typically the pressure/temp/size is all a plumber is worried about.

Re: RockSliders->.188 or .250\"?

I use 2x2x0.250 on my truggy and pivot, grind, land on them all day long with no problems. Not sure if 0.188 would hold up without denting or bowing. I only have mine supported in 2 places, so it's possible they would be arched if the material was thinner. Built my son's out of 2x3x0.188, but he has yet to finish it so I don't have any idea how they really work, but I suspect they will be fine for moderate wheeling...

I used 3x3 1/8" tube and so far so good /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Should have used 2x3" though to fit the front fender mount, 3x3 if your going to cut the mount all the way out.

i used 3x3 .125" wall box tube for mine...landed on them hard a few times and they've held up fine.

FWIW 3x3 x .125" wall is roughly 5 lbs per foot, .188" wall is roughly 7.5 lbs per foot and .250 wall is roughly 10 lbs per foot.

I used the 3x3 0.188" stuff for my rockers also. I've pivoted against trees and highlifted the entire side of the truck off the ground using these with no signs of any flex.

ah darnit. I was wrong I was thinking about 1-1/4 sched. 40 pipe- (O.D.=1.660" I.D.=1.380" wall thicnkess=.140"

Then 1.5" pipe is: outside diameter-1.900"...inside diameter-1.610"...wall thickness 0.145"
