I am looking for a roof (top skin only) for my 89 Blazer. It has some hail damage and a big dent where something fell on it. Rather than go the bondo route I would like to just cut out the old and weld in a better one. I have checked LMC, Classic Parts, and Classic Industries and none seem to have a patch panel for this application. Minor surface rust and finish is no concern as I will have the piece sand blasted. Let me know what you have and what you want for it.

There is no real rust on my current roof its more the hail damage. The body shop added up all the labor hours to remove the large dent, the 20 plus hail dents, and the little bit of rust, and thought it more cost effective to just weld in a new piece. I honestly could care less as who sees the roof anyways but I also don't like doing things half a**.

you cut the formed/stamped panel it might be a can of worms.

Good point. Do you think it would compromise the integrity of the cab eventhough it is just the top layer? Again I am not attempting this job myself. It is in the shop as we speak.

I would not recommend cutting that out. I recall reading some horror stories of guys doing that to put in a sunroof and it all went to hell.

If I were you I would call around and see about some of those paint-less dent remover folks. I bet you can get the hail fixed easy, and then have the shop do the big dent, then paint it.

Or just lift the whole truck and then no one will ever know. :D

Thanks for the advice fellas. I told them to just remove the big dent and do the best he can with the rest before paint. I am sure it will be fine though. After some self reflection I can only recall once or twice where I have ever wiped off the top after a wash. Anyone looking that closely at the top of a Blazer is missing the point anyways. :screwy:

well if thay cant pull a few dents with a pin welder then thay prob dont need to be doing body work.

if your not happy with there ideas and work sofar what makes you think it will be the best in the end. its your money do it / have it done the way you want.
