Rory was playing around in water with Trail Mater, and sucked some water hydraulicing his engine. It was the open element air cleaner that got him. GM square body trucks come factory with a baffle in the radiator support that helps to keep water from being sucked into the engine, which is why I retain the factory air intake snorkle that attaches to the radiator support in my square body.

That sucks for those guys. Just screwing around like we all do. Should make for a good video swapping out the motor. Right in the middle of tourist season too.

Doesn't help any that he's got no inner fenders. That Onion Creek trail he was on is way fun when it's hot out and you are on an atv. My kids loved it when they were little.

Yup. No inner fenders means zero deflection. From what I heard, Rory admitted his poor decision about how he drove through the water. But I haven't watched the video yet.

I was amazed about the deluge of water that cascaded over the hood and windshield. I was thinking the narrowed front really lets the water get thrown over the front of the truck.

Its also the minimal front overhang. My truck does that too. Dovenose with nothing in front of the tires makes a serious wake. If the water is clear the urge to go fast through the crossings is hard to fight. I've hit some quick and made huge splashes because I'm a kid at heart. It happens and that's life. Nothing that can be done about it other than being better at being at resisting the fun of the splash.

Onion creek is beautiful. Me and my brother checked it out last year. Went in there and came out by Polar mesa and down through the park. I want to run it the other way so we come out the creek in the afternoon when it’s warmer.

Thats how I ran it last. Started over by GJ and ended in Onion Creek. Lot of old uranium mines up there.

I do this on the mud truck on my avatar and on my other trucks:

Anyone watch Dave Chapelle hydrolock an engine during Easter jeep safari this year? Swamped engines are not what I think about when I think Moab. I think dry and scorching hot.

I've seen engines saved by old-fashioned pleated paper air filters.
