ryoken submitted a new Build:

Ryoken's 91 GMC 1500

figured I'd put this in here, tho it probably wont be much of a "build".. we'll see down the road, maybe I'll throw a paint job at it or something..

anyway, as I mentioned in Mutt's thread, bought a new alternate DD'er for $400...

just a 4.3 with a 4 spd.. but he has spent some coin over the last yr or so, so I didn't mind giving him 400 for it... new front tires, new flywheel and clutch, alt, rad and w pump.... good sticker till oct 015, see what happens than.. heck, maybe I'll put a 5.3 package in it...

just gonna clean it up some for now, drive it and fix as needed... it could use back brakes and the idler arm is a bit sloppy...

one thing I have to check into that I could use a bit of firsthand experience with is, the plastic clutch/ressy replacements that feed the slave they sell now for this gen pickup/clutch setup? I know he's blown up a couple of those over the last 5 yr's.. :dunno: apparently it wasn't a great design and the aftermarket replacements fail easy.. when he had the clutch/flywheel put in, that's what the tranny guy said, they where notoriously cr@ppy...

bonus factoid... I now have a use for the black toolbox on the back of Mutt now... wasn't going on the tubebed, so it was just gonna sit in my garage... :woot:

Looks quite a bit like how mine started :D How long until hotrod fever kicks in? I just bought a 5.3 the 355 is coming out in a couple months!

As far as your clutch res issue goes. Yes the stockers were plastic, and ****ty. The replacement from advance auto will be aluminum on both the slave and master. Much nicer units. In fact I have a brand new master if you want it. I upgraded mine to a 7/8ths.

I find it odd its a 4 speed though. I thought only the s10s retained the 4 speed possibility that late. Maybe it was some odd fleet truck RPO or something.

for now I'll run it... once Mutt is back running around and this is relegated back to back up duty, we'll see..

for as much as I'd like to say, I'll hunt down a 5.3, etc, it has to be WAY down my list of priorities... the K5 comes first, than I've hopefully got Mutt's inboarding/axles/37's coming up next winter... which is another project I'll be glad to have this kicking around for..

even the cummins swap would be above a 5.3 swap in this too. so unless I win the mega millions, it'll be a while... :doah:

Pretty sure 91 was the last year of the 465. Friend had it in his '91 K2500.
Think it was still used since the square bodies were still being made.

At any rate, nice score!

funny you brought this one back up... got it here at the house yesterday and cleaned it up today...

man.. quit smoking 2 yrs ago and that sh*t makes me pukey now.. my coworker was a heavy smoker.. scrubbed the he!! out of the interior... actually pulled the headliner out...

I think the benchseat is what still stinks...

air fresheners and febreeze in the morn!

needs a couple things... these are WAY cheesier than prior square bodies imo.. it needs an exterior door handle.. the interiors are mega cheesy, etc...

but it runs ok... have to ask him if it's 150 g's or 250... :haha:

On the smell...

...Walmart has these odor absorbing puck thingies. White plastic with a label on top, about 6" wide by an inch or two tall. You peel off the label and the gel inside goes to work. Citrus or clean laundry I think are the choices. About $4.
Worked wonders in the last K5 I had when I first got it. Smoking was only one of the odor issues that thing had when I got it.

cool, thanks, i'll spy them next chance I get...

If it is a 4 speed Id be willing to bet its probably that oddball 4spd over drive unit or the earlier s10 4 speed. The real question though is why the hell is that in there? Im intrigued.

I haven't actually driven it yet, just moving it around the yard/driveway... same pattern as a 465.... haven't been under it yet to peak at anything... i'll get it reg/insured next sat..

not a huge rush, but want it drivable in the next 3, 4 weeks so I when I start hammering Mutt, I'll have wheels for work..

it's got a leaky therm housing and that draglink I'll probably address...

if anyone has a pretty complete drivers door handle for this body, I'll buy it... it works, but it's all busted up and flopping around in the hole..

Nah, they only used the A833 in the early 80's.

The SM465 was still around and an option for those that didn't want the Getrag 5 speed OD trans.

now if I can just get my fat arse under the 2wd to peak at it, we're golden!!!! :woot: :woot:  :haha:

on a side note.. it needs new dash speakers damn it.... :haha:

What size are the dash speakers? I have some small ones the neighbor gave me you can have for shipping. Pioneer 4" or something like that. Not sure what to do with them but I have them.

thanks.. :D i'll take a peek at em.. I just noticed today the right one works ok, but the left pops and makes ear-bleeding noises...

just wanna listen to the radio, no need for something thumpin.. it's an archaic sony cassette deck... :haha:

it's got a bit of surface rust above the windshield and the ps cab corner has a hole, but the body is surprisingly good.. I think it may be one I'll put a some parts on here and there and see where it goes...

it may be worth a new drivetrain when the sticker is up, we'll see.. maybe i'll fudge the 4.3 thru inspection again at that time.. just really glad to have a backup to Mutt at this point... :woot:

oh, man, so used to driving Mutt and not a pickup.. went to backup today, spun/turned around, and almost put my elbow thru the back window! :haha: :doah:

so now that this truck is titled, legal, and I've actually driven it... :haha:

1 is it's actually a 92 cuz of it's oct production date..

and 2, it's a 5 spd, not a 4 spd... :doah: :haha:

I just kinda guessed it was a 4... than I drove it, "hey, another gear!" :woot: :haha:

so anyway, what's that make the box? a 3500 maybe? or some POS getraggy thing? :dunno:

Nope 92 should be an external slave nv3500. Its not the best but WAY better than the getrags.
