Can you recommend any salvage yards containing only/specializing in older vehicles within a 250 mile radius of, say, the NYC/Philly area.

a) When i say "older," i mean 70's/80's/90's. If you want to get specific, 73-91......gee, wonder why.....?

b) Or, if the yard has very current vehicles, then if they also have quite a few older cars, then that could satisfy the requirement. Not just a few, but QUITE a few.

c) At first we can focus on the 250 mile requirement, but i'm generally open to any location because i'm probably going to vacation out west soon anyways.

Thanks.

There are few left in MA and New England, most have all been crushed out long ago except a few small privately owned salvage yards in rural towns..most of whats in them consist of rotted hulks with trees growing thru them, but once in a while you find a hidden gem ..you may find the parts you need, but chances are good they will be in poor shape from sitting in a swampy junkyard for decades..

Most yards here that score a desirable car or truck they know has collector value and isn't "junk" gets kept by the owners or an employee on the rare occasion one comes in the gates..they sometimes will sell one whole, but not very often..titles can be a stumbling block here,I've seen many decent cars and trucks have to be parted out because you cant get a new title..

I've heard of a place in RI , "Hall Motors" I think near Warwick, that had a stash of old muscle cars and old trucks, but I also think the owner was forced to close it up and scrap everything ,according to a site I found online..

Personally if your looking for parts or an old vehicle ,I would head south or west where things dont rot away..

problem up here is RUST and high price of scrap years ago . the older yards crushed every thing when the price was high and now the rust has eaten the stock that left and when they go to the yards most of them send them straight to the crusher .

Good luck with that. When scrap went high a few years back you saw salvage yards cash in on the old stuff. Plus back east the inventory likes to return to the earth a lot quicker than they do out west. Add to that most of the modern "pick and pull" yards cater to newer stuff within the last 10-15 years and turn the inventory quick.

There is a chance there might be a private yard here or there, but those guys typically don't invite just anybody to roam the yard.

Even out west here the amount of squarebodies have dropped in numbers at most yards. Local pick and pull places might have one or two out of a couple hundred cars in the yard. I've come across a couple private guys that have stashes but it's always you got to know the guy or know someone that does to get introduced.

All my "good" junk yards in my area of NY have all been forced to close, or have been bought by LKQ, which got rid of the old stuff. I'm in contact with a few yards in the south. what are you looking for? I've been traveling back and forth a fair amount while I'm getting my move south done. I've been coming back north with a reasonably empty trailer. I don't usually go through jersey, to avoid tolls. but always willing to help.

There’s a couple yards that have old stuff, but depends what ur looking for...

Try collus truck parts in bath pa. They have some older stuff. The problem is most have crushed anything pre 90 in most of the yards I’ve been to. collistruckpartsonline.com
