score! got a 1/2 TOP!..

I say go with a soft piece with a window and have it cover the rear. Then you can unbutton the the window if you want a breeze and have a place to hide you junk. Jeeps do this now It shouldn't be to expensive.

Imagine an "L" shaped soft top. It lay's across the bed of the blazer like a taunno for a truck and then a plastic window for the back of the top.

Button kits are cheap and if you had to you might be able to have a old jeep top modified to fit. Run a pinch rail at the top of you hard top and button the rest.

HMMMM I'll try to get a pic on a jeep.

looks light enough just to throw on....don't know that I have ever seen one like that.....go throw it on your truck and take more pics so we can see....orrrr don't use it and ship it down to me :D

This is the only shot I have loaded up right now. I used Lexan for the rear window. Made a track for the bottom of the window to sit in out of steel and slid the lexan up into the blazer top. Then screwed the metal track I made up into the topper. It doesn't open. Wall was made of 18ga. steel and 1" square tubing.

Now after all that work, the wall will be getting trimmed back for tire clearance in the rear and the topper, I'm going to eventually make a soft top for it and dump the remaining 150-200 lbs.

I was going to suggest what cybrfire did with the lexan. Although I didn't think about the channel deal for the window to screw into the top. I like that. I like Jishory's idea too with the false space for the window to drop into.

cybrfire, do you have any pics of the inside back area? How long is your top?
 
I would build something like "Grim-Reaper" used to have. The rear window was a piece of Lexan with metal (aluminum, IIRC) channel to keep it ridged. The metal rested on the the little barn doors he built and held it in the original window channel.

Of course you wouldn't be able to mount the tire or can rack to it if you wanted it to open in the middle of the bed. But the doors would still work and are fairly simple.
 
i think i`m gonna go with Jis`s idea of making the wall so the window can slide inside....but how should i fasten it to the bed sides and floor and have it be weather sealed?

the cap is about 3ft long, its about 1/2 of the orig., so its a little longer than Kerts, anyother advice would be greatly appreciated, as soon as i get a wall built up and window cut out, the top will go on:D

do you think i should do anything to it after its on, like make up or find little bed rails like pickups have, or do something like the avalanche has?

I can snap a few of the inside today. I think the top is like 18"-24" long. Can't remember off the top.
 
How about mounting the guts from a power tailgate on your new "wall" and make the window roll up and down just like the tailgate window? It doesn't do anything for weight savings, I know...
 
well i`ve thought of that, i`m just wondering how big of a project that will be, i`m not looking to lose any weight so that wouldnt be a problem, i think figuring out how to do it wood though, especially with the two wheel wells on the inside, which is right where the wall would go
 
i think today i will start making up some cardboard templates for a wall, see how it goes, and i think when it`s all said and done it should be cool, i think that i might make little bedrails that will go from the caps end to the tailgate, but what should i do with the tailgate, get a pickup one, or use some sort of cargo net, i think i just may go with the plexi glass idea, as i think i have an idea that will work well
 
Ah chit, the whell wells. I don't think a roll down window of any type will work because the the window is too wide to fit between them. I had thought of that being an issue before but forgot. Unless you just want to make it so it drops 6" or so to let a breeze through.
