score! got a 1/2 TOP!..

i`m gonna make a 2 sided wall so the window can drop in, but anyone have any suggestions on how to fasten/seal it to bed floor and sides??

to fasten it get a bunch of L-brackets and self-tapping screws. to seal it I'd get some rubber strips or foam strips. You can find all that stuff easy in a hardware store.

alright, i think i`m gonna start fabbin up the wall today, i`ll probably just be using self tappers and bolts as i dont have a chance to get it welded, well i might, what should i use for the frame of the wall? and when i screw the sheet metal to it, should i uses some time of sealant betweent the frame and sheetmetal?

I wouldn't use adheasive if you want to get this thing out later on. Like I said foam strips at a hardware store. You know like the stuff for window ACs and insulation.

what stuff? and i`m not sure if i`m going to want to make it removable or not, if it works as planned it just might be permanent, cant wait, it will be different i know that for sure

i think the walls going to look something like this, the red dots being bolts, and the bottom corners cut outs for the wheel wells.

what should i build the frame out of?

ok

got a few more questions, should i use carriage bolts to hold the wall together?how can i seal it to floor and bed sides?what about sealing to the back of the cap, like the section that would sit on the tailgate?not sure if its gonna clear the seat or not, but if it doesnt, is it gonna be worth screwing around with it? one of the main reasons i want to do it is so my snowblower will fit in the back, that and its gonna be different.is it gonna be worth it?also the tailgate, IIRC i heard a pickup tailgate will bolt right up?how hard is it to cut lexan?

I used camper shell foam between the bottom frame of my wall and around the sides. My fit was so tight however that I developed a squeak somewhere after I had it all together. I then used clear caulk to seal around the edges and seams. It still remained flexible and then I painted over everything.

didn't you just put a post up saying that the half top conversion was under way?

yea i did, but i deleted it when i realized how much work it actually needs, and i already am stuck in a few projects, colby, if you were me, what would you do? go with the plan i had before i even got the top and make a roof rack(not now,but sometime), or just wait till everything else is finished, then tackle it?

my only problem is, is how can i fix the problem with the weather strip??the pieces that would rest on the tailgate are pretty much junk, so i`m not too sure on how to seal it to the wall. which is another thing i`m pretty shady about, anyone have any suggestions, which could perhaps change my mind?

should i just use my weather stripping off my current top? and for the wall, should i just make it 2 sided, then when i mount it in, just silicone the crap out of the bottom and sides? it seems like i`m almost talking myself back into it.......hmmm, i have an idea....to the Paint i go

if i were you, i'd pick a certain project and finish it. :wink1: personally, i don't care for the idea of the half top, but it's interesting to watch. take a look at mountainexplorer's trucks. he's got one which is called the truck blazer and it's got a very similar half top to what you're doing - it would have a similar look anyway.

If you decide to sell start a new thread in the correct forum please. The Garage is not a classifieds area...
