I just got off the phone with a guy who is going to hold a D60 for me for $600. Only thing is its a drw and has 3.54 gears what is needed to change to 456 gears:D

sure its 3.54? that sounds awfully low for a 1 ton, or was it regeared?

I've got atleast one with 3.54's

Nice find by the way

hmm learn something new all the time, i knew ford did some funky ratios but i didnt think chevy did front 60's with any gears lower than 3.73

if its a Ford HP axle...you just need the new gears. if its Dodge or Chevy...you need a new carrier and the gears, OR a ring gear spacer and the gears.

How does that work? HP and standard D60s use the same carriers. Are the Ford 3.54s specially cut for a 4.56s and numerically higher carrier? "thin cut" gears, never heard of them.

great score. word of advice though, unless he's a great friend... don't make him "hold it" for you any longer than absolutely necessary... never know when some clown with $750 might show up and scoop ya... and that would suck.

DRW is no big deal, you can swap hubs or just run rims with mad backspacing... hummers, custom staz, whatever.

I just have a bunch of them. I'm no expert. I just bolt them in and go. :D
Really so youve never messed with em? i find that hard to believe:D

I've had some apart with outers and shafts out and added a crossover arm. But haven't replaced kingpins or gears and haven't done enough to feel technically qualified. :D

But anyways... didn't mean to diverge from the original topic.

Its a chevy d60 its apart with pass. side drop open and guy said it had that gear ratio.

Good luck. When I got my D-60 the guy said it would be $300...When I showed up it had suddenly jumped to $600 and "someone else was on there way to pick it up"

-I paid the $600 and got the heck out of there :D

Sure it's not a Dodge D61F? Check the casting on the pumkin if it says "61F" it could be a spendy diff to get it where it's useful to you. AFAIK the D61 were commonly found under the early CTD truck that had auto's without overdrive...hence the tall gears. The 'tallest' ratio I've ever heard of in a chev D60 is 3.73, and even that is uncommon. 4.10's are most common, then 4.56.

Before you hand over the cash you should know that most would consider a 61F to be worth substantially less than a 60F.

Alright now you guys got me thinking Im going to look at the d60 tomorrow so what should I look for to make sure its a chevy. Guy told me it was a pass. side drop open with 354 gears is that really impossible or rare gear ratio.
