New dipstick with new o-ring. Kind of a dumb question, but how far in is it supposed to go? I thought I had mine in all the way, but put a few quarts of fluid in in and I've got a heavy drip coming back out. Leaking out of the kickdown cable hole as well. Any suggestions?

Double checked and I have it down to the bump. This thing hasn't ran and the tranny was completely empty when I installed it. I put 6 quarts in it, 5 through the dipstick and one in the converter. Think I'll wait til after I get this thing started next week to get the tranny pump working and pump some fluid out of the pan. Then clean the housing/dipstick and rtv the heck out of it. Don't know what else to do.

Probably not the answer you want to hear but I have never had good luck with the o ring dipsticks sealing the ones with the big long rubber seal work much better. Hopefully I will be getting one soon so my leak will stop :D

Do you have the correct seal? Did you use an o-ring where a top hat seal was supposed to be installed?

This is a non "k" case that I picked up used local. I believe it came out of an early 80's 4x4. It had an o-ring dipstick with it, but not installed. Is there a way to tell which one you need?

The case doesn't matter, just the dipstick. I've got the same problem, a buddy that works at a transmission shop said that he puts new o rings on and the puts a bead of silicone above the ring. If the dipstick has an indention in it for an o ring, then it's an o ring style. Sorry for the obvious. The "boot" type dipsticks are smaller on the end that goes into the tranny where it'll fit into the boot.

Thanks, I thought maybe there was a difference in the case I didn't know about. The seal was new and I lubed it before I knocked it in. Will post up after I RTV it. Got busy with the holliday and haven't had time to mess with it.
