Serpentine Belt advantages?

Everything just seems to line up better with serpentine set-ups. Usually less bracketry and and you don't have to make adjustments.

I've never had an assembly seize up without warning. I've had them die plenty of times but not seize up.

Actually, the point i was making is that lets say your alternator siezes up, you cannot just keep driving until you fix the problem. If you used a V belt system you could simply remove the alternator belt and keep driving. The same goes for the P/S pump.
Same goes with if the idler or tensioner pulley decides to fly apart. My a/c pump was making a god awful noise so i wanted to just delete it but you have to find the a/c delete pulley to take its place. I couldn't understand why they don't make a shorter belt to bypass the damn thing all together

/rant I like serp setups myself. Just more adjustments

I have a 81 blazer with a 95 tbi 350 i wouldent ever go back to v belt i got stuck in the mud and threw my belt it was a mess but i allways carry a spare belt idler arm and tensher just in CASE.i had new belt on in ten min that would of been ahuge mess with v belts lol

How often does an alternator freeze up? .

pretty often if you buy the cheaper reman'd units, :doah: i made this mistake buying one from Autozone, was driving down the highway, smelled something weird, look at the volt meter, it was down to like 9 volts, and about the time i started to move to the slow lane in case something failed, it started screaching real bad.

Luckily, traffis was clear at that exact monent where i just darted to the shoulder and shut down the engine without tearing anything else up.

The rear bearing let go, had a small fire inside the unit as well, and unfortunately it cost me a tow bill as well, couldn't drive it.

another instance, my mothers truck ('94 pick-up) she was driving home from anout of town trip, lost power steering, we thought the high pressure hose blew, i drove an hour to where she was with a new hose, and turns out the front bearing of the pump failed, again, undriveable, towed it home with a strap, (that was interesting)

Idler pullies,,, i have found that they USUALLY will give some warning before they fail, they usually start squeaking and chirping a few days or weeks before they fall apart.

and yes, if the AC clutch decided to burn up, the whole pulley on the unit starts wobbling.

serpentine is nice for quiet belts and good tension on the accessories, but they do have their drawbacks.

if you have the money for the March setup, i know I'D run it in a heartbeat.

just my personal experiances and opinions.

idler pulleys are generally what fail on serp setups...

v vs serps, i'd probably go serp.... serps are 1000x less likely to slip.. v's, put a heavy load on and if they're slightly loose or worn and they wanna slip...

f that, I'm going radius tooth... that chit's badarse......
