I have a six lug semi float 14 bolt in my blazer. The company that sold it to me claimed it came out of a '96-'97 Z71 pickup. It has a gov lock. Every noise I hear from behind the drivers seat makes me think the rear end is giving up... The stock ten bolt's gov-lock blew apart on me... don't trust the new one even though it's bigger.

I've been trying to find info on the Eaton E-locker. Eaton shows two part numbers for the 9.5 inch rear end: one for 1980something to '97ish ($700-$800), and one for the H2 hummer ($400-$600) with a GM part number...

I would like to either put a used locker from an H2 into my axle, or buy the H2 E-locker new and put into my axle... Anyone know if the H2 9.5 is any different (the diff itself) from the older semi float 9.5 inch rear ends?
I'm not coming up with much with the search button on this one. Anyone do this? or have some info for me?

Hmm, wasn't aware of anything changing in the carrier area. E-locker replaces the entire piece, so only thing I can think of is how the bearings are retained?

Eaton may be able to tell you, if you can find a tech/engineer number to call. A good differential builder probably could too. Randy's ring and pinion?

I hope the H2 E locker fits because I bought one on EBay to put in my axle. When I bought it, the guy that sold it thought it would work in any 14 bolt SF. I haven't tried to install it yet, but it sure looks the same to me. At that time I couldn't find an online price for the GM number so I didn't realize there was a price difference. I just assumed they were the same part with different numbers for OEM and aftermarket.
One more thing, don't all H2's come with the E locker? That would mean the GM part would be for replacement purposes and would not come with the wiring harness and switch. I know that doesn't explain the entire price difference, but might be part of it.

96-97 Z-71 I believe to be half ton ONLY = 10bolt.....6 lug 14bsf should be out of a 2wd 3/4 ton.

Wrong.

Any half ton 88-98 with the F44 option code got a 6 lug 14SF. Z71's or regular 4x4. Sorta weird how GM did it and we haven't found rhyme or reason as to why it was done. Some trucks with the Z71 package and towing package didn't get it while others found it under regular old half ton 4x4's.

thanks for the correction...my incorrect interpretation of trying to understand why GM does what it does.

Subscribed, just to see if it works. I would like to use it in my 14sf, but I don't want to spend the money only to find out it won't work. Would be nice to have a part time locker, especially for Moab. Keep us informed.

That would be a 2500LD. Basically a "heavy half". Has a standard 1/2 ton 8.25" front diff.

one problem that I've had with a couple of these, the pinion shaft retainer bolt will break off, and let the pinion shaft slide out to make ungodly sounds while contacting the pinion gear.

I have not gotten into a semi float 14 yet. I think you are refering to a bolt in the E-locker diff? Not something in the housing or regular/gov lock carrier? And are you talking about the H2, or 9.5" E-Locker, or one for a dana 30, or dana 44? Under what circumstances did this bolt give?

Since the E-locker replaces the carrier, does that mean it can be used in place of a G80? Does the 14 bolt sf use the same carrier for all available gear ratios?

How hard are they to install?

Did this work? Getting ready to possibly regear my 14sf, and want to put one of these in if they work.

I've been curious about this as well...

Try PMing driney since he actually bought one?

I know that there are some missing pieces with the H2 model. Obviously it won't have the switch and wiring harness that the "full install" model would have. Plus, the older pumpkin won't have a hole or connector for the wiring the pass through. So you will have to make something. I don't know if the e-locker uses a stationary coil or a slip-ring design, but something in there must be stationary. My guess is that it's retained by the bearing cap bolts. So can these missing parts be fabricated? It would help to see detailed pictures of the full setup.

Did anybody ever get one of these e-lockers to work? I have a 14 SF with a blown gov-lock and looking to replace with one.
