Oh and figuring out costs. The extra cost of doing 16" center studs will be made up in insulation cost. So 16" centers it is

Keep in mind that you're losing that insulation value. Framing lumber has an R-value of 1 per inch, while foam can give 4 or 5 R-values per inch. So a 2x4 gives you an R-value of 3.5 where you could have an R-value of 13-16 (depending on what you're using for insulation).

1.5" studs every 16" account for 9.4% of your wall area. On 24" centers they account for 6.3% of the area. So you're losing ~3% of your insulation.

Not sure if you care, but I wanted to point out the one downside.

I am aware of that downside. But since the studs will be decoupled that will help and the fact that I have the foam board behind it the loss will not be as great as a typical stud wall.

Honestly if I could afford it I would buy 1.5" thick foam board cut to 1.5" wide and zip it to the back of the studs but I doubt that will happen. In addition I will have an air gap between the studs and the foam so that will also help.

But yes the increased area of wood was thought about before.

I've had way too much time to think about this shop

That's awesome Eric.

Do you already have a conduit in the ground to pull that through?

I actually already have the wire run to the shop. This wire will connect with it. So it's all above ground stuff. Just gotta get some conduit to run it through

Eric, your shop is friggin awesome! I'd love to have a space like that to work on my rigs. My Caddy just barely fits inside of my current shop.

Can't wait to see this thing get done. You need some work space and a place to organize your tools for sure! My OCD goes nuts every time I walk through your house garage. lol

Of course once I get my house built I'm more than willing to come help too.

When is the sheetrocking party? Are you needing help with your wiring?

It's likely I won't get started on much till April as far as all that goes.

First thing that needs done is the walls framed out. I'm hoping to get all the stuff for the framing of the walls (2x4s) get them up and then grab everything else. So I can build the walls on the floor and then just raise em up

After that is wiring. And yes I need help with that. It kind of depends when the money hits our bank account which is likely still 2 weeks away.

I'm just planning on April for most of it. Also it will be warmer then lol. Haven't even gotten out of the teens yet today

Yah man my garage is really fustrating to me. I was used to a much larger space so it's been really difficult to fit what I think I need vs what will actually fit.

Yah get back to work on your house!!!!
