so i went to the car show this weekend and besides the fact that it was packed with imports the 4x4 were just lame. there was the jeep with a 26" lift, 44" tires and a bone stock driveline (read: amc20) a k5 with 44"s and 10 bolts beefed up with chrome diff. covers, and crome everything else, and the 40" equipped 2000 ifs f150 with some goofy looking lift.
id like to have an offroad (yeah right) competition between these truck to see which breaks first. my bet would be teh ifs with 40s. at least the k5 had a solid axle (the only thing that wasnt chromed) and the jeeps 4 banger wouldnt make enough torque to break anything.

he who bash other 4x4, look silly when being pulled out by it.

Most show trucks just make me laugh...

funny thing about show trucks is that for all the money they spend making them ridiculously built they could just swap in decent running gear. If you spend 50k on making it look pretty why not throw another 2k into some axles worth having? Thats one aspect I never understood. They will buy 30+ shocks, but not a Dana 60 or 14 bolt.

Hey Dude the 80's are calling they want the Ford back.
Man that is sick probably got an old bone stock 300 6 banger in it and 3.55's with a piece of crap AOD tranny.

Good Lord... thats like a grand worth of shocks
well i mean they are SHOW trucks, all show no go, they dont see theneed for beefier drive train, they let it sit in their driveway and drive it to the show and back and show it off. If they were to even try and romp a curb they'd probably break something

Show trucks are cool to do just that show off. Most of them are not even started just rolled off one trailer and on to another. They give us ideas for our real world rigs. They have their place in showing us new and innovative ideas, but not to be taken seriously. for instance there is a magazine out with a super duty Ford lift 18" with 44 inch boggers with a stock powerstroke and dana 60's. Its all show but their is some cool truss welding that gave me a great idea.

i have only ever seen one " show " truck that was built and played with,,and i got to see it when i was verrrrrry young in it's first ever appearance here.and that was only because it was born and built here along with a few other of the guy's i grew up with that made thing's like that.
nowadays they call it " BIGFOOT "
smile.gif

bigfoot's first ever appearance was at the cecil county mud bog's in cecil county maryland ( no longer held
frown.gif
)
ever since then my buddies and some of the other guy's who were actually driving back then that i knew have been into 4 wheeling and racing and everyhting in between.
i've even got to work on bigfoot before,,that's pretty damn cool to be able to say " i was wrenching on the big block in bigfoot " and all the other crap he broke that night at the
"buck motorsports park" here in Pa.
i think it was one of the only few times he's ever come there.

me personally,,i kinda like show truck's, but i do hate to see a $100,000 ford excursion that's been bought with every option,,torn apart, chromed, put together, minus all the internal stuff in the motor( which a lot of guy's DO take out ) and then drug around from show to show and not be able to even move on it's own power. it makes me cry sometimes
frown.gif
when i see a sweet set of tires and wheel's that have been on a truck for 5 years and they still got fuzzy's on them,,,, but then usually that night the guy doing burnout's in the parking lot of the motel with his 67 4x4 pick-up blower motor 502 melting 44" boggers makes all the bad thought's go away

<font color=purple> Some of them are technically nice machines but still show nothing as far as real world usage ........ great imaginations though.

I could never have the self control not to take one of those trucks mud bogging. I mean come on they are built to the hilt. I don't see how the owners wouldnt want a functional truck. Id take a beater on 44s with a big block over a show truck any day.

my motto says it all......
I have used my moto since 1990 ( when I started driving )
Chrome Dont Get You Home,
and looking at my truck is definite proof

To each his own, it's their truck, if they want to make it look silly to others it's their bussiness in my opinion. There is a lot of hard work and money tied up in some of those trucks.
That being said I have to admit I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing at the Rancho truck. He or she probably had more tied up in the paint job than I have in my whole 72.
Oh well, at least they are not in a crusher somewhere.

If all they're doing is showing them, let them keep their 10 bolts and save the 14 bolts and D60s for those who will use them.

I only go to car shows. I stay away from 4x4 truck shows. I start laughing hysterically and I'm sure will get my butt kicked for it one day

laugh at them. anyone who spends hours doing anything other than maintenance or fixing something until its broken is wasting his time. Wash and wax? Chrome polish? Hah. I park next to anyone in the parking lot. I dont worry about dents or door dings or scratches. Its liberating. My wife has a nice car and she always is worried about someone hitting it. I say, live without the stress my truck is all "go" and not "show". Its funny that most of those shocks do nothing other than make the ride stiff. Why not just swap in coilovers and have a sweet ride.

chrome sucks
about chrome: "I didn't know it was possible for something to both suck and blow"

http://www.truckworld.com/Shows-Events/01-essex/P0001894-400.jpg dont know how to do the 'clickification', but is that 4 wheel steer? also notice the quad steering stabilizers and the triple double roll bar with rear facin lights on it, and the forward facin light bar with 10 lights on it!!! how much ya wanna bet hes got atleast 75k in that truck? probably even used up all the good axles on it.

That Blazer was on the cover of 4wheeler several years ago ... it didn't use to look that bad.

I agree.. When I'm in my 99 Galant I worry about stuff like that but when I park my old Jimmy i could care less. Plus I'm happy not having a good paint job on the truck, when I go offroading I don't have to wince when I hear tree limbs rubbing along the sides :)
